Default Fruit in Sorrento today

Prices were high, but I can't complain...It was such a beautiful day:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0103.jpg

Check out the size of these lemons! The ones on the far left...

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0106.jpg

We went to an orchard there before lunch...I snagged a dozen oranges for
1 euro...undoubtedly the deal of the day:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0115.jpg
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0114.jpg
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0116.jpg

This guy was happy to give LOTS of samples:

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/DSC_0108.jpg

Besides the oranges I left with two loaves foccacia, a jar of orange
marmalade, and some lemon sugar almonds.

Pizza margherita and ravioli were for lunch. Dinner tonight will be
Paninis...

Happily, my Penzey's order was waiting for me when I got home!!

Gina,
The pictures are great! Makes me really miss Italy. What's to the left of
the oranges in the front row of the market picture?

Jon

Thanks...pictures don't do justice, as you know. The place is
ridiculously scenic.

Still, every taste is appreciated. If I ever get enough money, I may never
even SEE the US again.

Not a bad plan...spend a few months in a different country, rotating,
for the rest of your life. Or just spend it on the amalfi coast...that's
good too...lol

What a day for you! It was gray and humid up here, you lucked out. Those
Sorrento lemons are extraordinary. They are the best for limoncello, and
make everything nicer than ordinary.

So, are you making lemoncello? There is nothing like a fresh picked
lemon! When I was in Italy, I was further north. I met family in a
village called Bersone- incredible up there, too. I hope you have a
chance to travel around as much as possible while you're there. I
wonder if you will even want to come back!!

You're right about that!...I picked one up and sniffed...I could smell
that REAL lemon scent all day long...

I enjoyed seeing the photos nonetheless. Makes me homesick.

The view I really enjoy is from the pass above Sorrento on the
way to Amalfi; in some spots, you can see both the Bay of Naples
and the Amalfi Coast, almost panoramically.

And now that Vesuvius has quit puffing it's clearer than it
used to be.

Oh that looks so good. It's funny, the Stop & Shop supermarket has small
lemons and they're super expensive, about $1.50 each. The Price Rite
near me has large lemons at about 50 cents each.

Being that the U.S. dollar is now worth about 2 cents it still isnt' a
deal but better than S&S.

Oh - Those are fantastic pictures. Italy is my dream destination. I
have yet to make it there, but hopefully within the next couple
years. Your pictures provide some evidence, that it is exactly as I
have it pictured in my mind.

Thanks for sharing.

Could the small lemons be Meyer Lemons? They command a much higher price in
my area.
