![]() I have no idea if this is a national ad or local, perhaps for a test market, but Burger King has been running an ad on TV that is annoying for a whole lotta reasons. The ad opens with a young couple (20's?) at a BK drive-up window asking for extra ketchup, extra napkins, etc. Suddenly you hear the sound of tires squealing and see the couple jerk as though they have been rear-ended. More squealing and smoke, then they get pushed ahead, away from the window by a car with a guy who looks smug and orders a steak burger something-or-other. Then they cut to graphics of the burger and its contents. Does that make anyone want to pull up to a BK window? I'd be afraid some jerk would try to copycat the commercial and run into me! It's not a very good example/model for young teens who drive badly enough as it is. gloria p The Old Curmudgeon |

I like BK's burgers, but they just never seem to have commercials that make any sense. I think they need to dump the brother in laws advertising agency and hire a real one. |

There are a PLETHORA of ads on radio and teevee that feature LOUD honking horns, screaming shills, etc....it's like the ad agencies pump up their kr8tive staff with crystal meth and then say to them, "Make sure you give the public a HARD sell...". Car ads are the worst, LOUD rock music, of course these car ads are aimed at young males. Nothing new, but it seems more pronounced these daze, prolly because the young demographic they are targeting is addicted to video games and is thus brain - dead... Or maybe because, like you, I'm getting older and HATE loud and stoopid noises... ;-) -- Best Greg |

But all the noise and wreckage is a distraction from what they're trying to sell. It also makes it look like BK is patronized by a bunch of spazzo food addicts. It doesn't affect my opinion of Burger King one way or the other, but I can see where it might not make some people want to rush out to the nearest one. |

Naturally, it's made to be humor, not a depiction of Real Life or a driving lesson. No mute switch? No channel shifter? I couldn't describe a single commercial in the detail you did because I never listen to them. If I don't change the channel I at least mute them. Eliminates most of what annoys you about this one. -aem |

Then, next thing you know they were back in business and next thing you know, a few months later, they burned down again! I don't know of a Burger King within a 5-mile radius from there. As of two years ago, the property is a bank. It hasn't burned down, yet. Andy Ask me if Burger King sucks! Former employee. |

It's a Taco Bell ad, an eatery I haven't visited in twenty years and it gently slams the hapless male. Two elegant dolls are seated in a Taco Bell. Sure! One smells bacon. The other has a bacon-flavored taco in her purse which she claims will attract available males. Sure, says the other incredulously. Sure enough three salivating dopes walk up, attracted to the "intoxicating" aroma. The people are beautiful, the situation silly, but to me it's funny. |

That's the obvious conclusion, but it just doesn't seem likely, there. Probably right, though, weird to see a thriving business disappear, one that will surely pop up nearby. They'll have to buy property and build, too. nancy |

Perhaps the franchise owner was old and wanted to retire and the profit from selling the land to a developer was more than they would have got selling the franchise. I don't live in a city but I don't live in the sticks, not by a long shot. No skin off my teeth, I don't go there, but plenty of people do. nancy |

Wouldn't surprise me at all, and I suppose I could call city hall in that town and find out. It was just an odd thing to see, that place disappearing like that. It was a big one, with the indoor playground. There is a Wendy's a block over, they must be slammed with new business. I didn't mean to give the wrong impression, I certainly do have the occasional fast food burger, I just didn't go to that one McDonald's. nancy |

That would be far more likely to me, it was that place in that location disappearing that I thought was weird. Not that any McDonald's would disappear. Who knows, maybe next week I'll see a bank sitting there. But there are a number of other properties on that road that I would expect to see bulldozed before this one. That's all I meant. nancy |

About five years ago the old Dairy Queen in front of the bowling alley was torn down and for months their section of the lot was boarded up while they rebuilt the modern version. I remember seeing the new version, I thought "well THAT sucks!" I liked the original version much better. The other downside was it made the bowling alley look that much older! ![]() Andy |

Unfortunately, some ads are annoying on purpose. They want to get your attention. It seems to have worked here, as there are 26 posts in this thread so far. > Does that make anyone want to pull up to a BK window? The important thing is to get "Burger King" implanted in our brains. I think it worked. There is a saying that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Lately, there's been a flap about Miley Cyrus (also known on tv as Hannah Montana). She's a Disney superstar who just got her picture taken. Said picture will appear in a major magazine: http://www.vanityfair.com/images/cul...l02w-miley.jpg Disney is really upset, or claims to be. That's not the image they want out there. What's the issue? You can't tell how much or what kind of clothes she is or isn't wearing. Now, we all know that everybody is naked under their clothes, but that isn't good enough for Disney. So, Miley has appeared in public showing more skin, but she had "regular clothes" on, so it was OK. I think everybody is crying all the way to the bank. There has been tremendous publicity, and the magazine is putting the presses into high gear. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

Or maybe it is being rebuilt. There was a McDs near me that I used to drive by a lot. It was on my way home from the grocery store. One day it was just gone...then not too much time went by and it was back. Weird. Tracy |
