There isn't any reason you couldn't add pearl onion to a recipe of your own, as far as I can tell. N. |

I wonder if it has anything to do with price and availability? My local brand doesn't specify all the ingredients: http://www.mezzetta.com/mm5/merchant.mvc? I had an ulterior motive that I did not mention. Gardiniera pickles have a crispness that others do not have and it would be great to be able to buy onions with the texture of English pickled onions. "Cocktail" onions, tho' certainly edible are not crisp enough for me! It is possible to buy the English pickles but I don't know any stores that can be fairly sure to stock them.
