Thanks to many of your for your input so far on my "which grill"
thread.

I'm interested in making my own waffles from scratch so I will need a
waffle iron/maker.

I saw a Kitchen Aid one for $200. Eesh. It's not *that* important,
besides I'm shelling out $700 on a grill as it is.

I see Waring Pro for $80, though I hear stuff about them being faulty.

Then I see Black and Decker, Cuisinart.... in the $40 range.

I would like to get a Belgian waffle maker, but traditional waffles is
fine too.

So does anyone own a waffle maker? And if so which brand?

If you can, try to find one that doesn't have any significant plastic on
it. Perhaps the handle might be plastic, but hopefully its "body" will
be all-metal. Good luck.

My Oster is metal/ plastic and hasn't given my a bit of problem because
of it, but I especially like the teflon coated metal plates.

Reminds me..my Villaware waffle iron seems to walked away - over to my
son's girlfriend's apartment.
I liked it a lot. It was a gift. I guess it's time to get a new one.

In order to make a valid decision you need to think about the following:

How many people are you making waffles for?

What type of waffles, Belgian, American breakfast?

How often are you going to use it?

Is a dedicated waffle maker OK or do you want one of the ones with the
reversible grill plates?

I have a Cuisinart large (6 waffle rectangles at a time). I am delighted
with the results but the appliance was IIRC about $70.00 (reconditioned) and
when I make waffles its for many people at a time.

I also own an OLD Proctor Schwartz circa 1930's with cast iron plates that
still works fine for a single 8 inch waffle.

Mine is Waring or Wearever, something like that. Teflon-coated. Regular
not Belgian. Dirt cheap, and I've probably had it for close to 20 years.

I have a Kitchen Aid Pro Line, but I make alot of waffles ;-) It's the one that you
flip so it makes 2 at a time, which comes in handy around our house, since it enables
us to all have breakfast at the same time! lol

that being said, my mom has the Waring Pro, and hasn't ever had a problem with it.

I have a Krups - Belgian style, smallish square waffles - it makes 2
at a time. Fine for me, I'm a single person ;-)

Contrary to someone else's advice, the Krups has a plastic outer body
and there's no problem with it, whatsoever. The baking plates are
pretty-much non-stick (I never have to throw out the first waffle) -
it cleans up superfast because the batter - if it drips out - doesn't
stick to the plastic. YMMV. It was a gift, but I think it was about
$36.
