Water
I've bought bottled water since forever they began selling it. I was out and filled a gallon container and let it sit out to let the chlorine dissipate out and it didn't taste half bad. Do you drink straight out of the tap, filter or buy bottled water? I need to buy another pool test kit to test the resting gallon jug of water side-by-side with the bottled water and see which fares better. Got a touch of "the runs" but that could've been the treat pepperoni/sausage pizza and a 10 day past prime chugging of fat free milk. Got science? And free time? Apply here. Free advice also accepted. How do you get your drinking water? Andy |

When we lived in Tampa Bay, we had to buy filtered water because the tap water tasted horrible. It cost 25 cents to refill a gallon jug at one of the machines outside every grocery store (that was back in 1991). I refill my 5 gal container for my water cooler about half full from the bathtub spigot. > > Andy --Bryan |

Most bottled water (in the USA) is labeled "MWS" (municipal water supply) or "PWS" (public water supply) or something like that. I do sometimes, but not often, buy a 'case' of liter water bottles just because I've lost the bottles over time. I'll refill those bottles with tap water over and over again so I have portable (and potable <g>) water handy when I run errands and such (bike ride, too). Bottled water is just something we keep on hand for emergencies. I can completely understand using bottled if your local water is nasty, but could never understand the droves of people in our previous home (a CA suburb) who inisted on buying bottled even though their local tap water was indistinguishable from the stuff they were buying by the case. Geez, at 600' deep you could heat your home if you had a sealed closed loop system unless you live in a desert. Have a mountain top well in the yard at the farm next to the house that we have tested annually and tastes great!!! There are roadside "drip" pipes from other mountain springs that folks drive to and fill up from. Andy |

![]() Ours is definitely out of the tap. We were judged by some survey 2nd in the nation behind NYC tap water in the '80's; and, it's just as good today. It comes from springs in the NC mountains, and our reservoir is so pristine that it is a thing of beauty. My husband and I went up to it on a weekend jaunt in his jeep. It was completely chainlinked fenced, but you could see all the way to the bottom of the lake wherever you looked. No boats allowed - or fishing - or admittance. They do have a yearly chlorine treatment, but I think that's for the pipes. Libby |

In Adelaide, SA, Australia, the tap water is so salty you can taste it in the
shower. I did notice a side effect of all the women having such small breasts as a result. Can't vouch for the men as that's not my interest. Quite unfortunate and disgusting at the same time. Andy |

It is undoubtedly safe and wholesome, but the flavor is slightly sour and tainted with chlorine. I fill a Brita pitcher from a sink-tap filter, and keep it in the refrigerator. The result is perfectly drinkable, so I use it to refill the bottled-water bottles I still occasionally buy. |

Naturally, I don't now how much is in the actual filter. But I have to clean it out of the little holes in the shower head, too. And if I've been away for a few days, the water often comes out quite brown for a while. I'm not blaming the city; but wherever in the system it comes from, it's still with which I have to contend. I use filtered water for cooking and for pets (Pur pitcher). For
drinking I almost never drink anything but room temp Pellegrino or some other mildly carbonated mineral water. I drink too much to use those little 'make your own bubbly water' and those carbonate far too much as well. |

And it was just a personal observation. Other women in NSW and Queensland were more chesty! It was a matter of the water supply that was just so salty you could taste it showering. Every other part of the continent we went to, we got rain water collection showers. It was the salt in the river that after irrigation the remaining water that filtered into town was salt laden. It was explained to me but I can't explain it exactly right any more. Andy |

I have been on Culligan (water cooler water) for years now, and can't stand tap water anymore. I will drink from water fountains only when desperate. That looks like charcoal backing up from the Brita filter. We used to see that in our Brita years ago (when we used one). |

>How do you get your drinking water? We live in an agricultural area, and the water from our well is pretty dodgy. We wash in it, brush our teeth with it, use it for cooking, and the pets drink it, but I don't trust it for more than that. We have a dispenser, and we buy our water in town 5 gallons at a time. We've thought of installing a UV filter, but we'd still have to buy water for coffee because our well water is really really hard and it would gunk up the coffee maker in about 2 weeks. Jo Anne |

One word: chloramine. Not sure when you lived in CA (that's California, not Canada true?), but it may have been before they started adding chloramine to the water. It's toxic to fish, wears out gaskets (so far it's got our toilet flush valve and the valves in our washing machine), "safe" for humans and it cannot be boiled or Brita'd out. Steve |
