ok, this is the 3rd or 4th time that I have tried using my KA slicer and
shredder ... each time it seems as though it is more work (aka mess) than it should be. I have NO idea what I'm doing wrong ... but I find using the slicer and shredder almost imposable. Any suggestions? If you have one .. how well does it work for you? I'm think I'm going to go ahead and buy a food processor ... and give up on the slicer and shedder. ![]() |

I have no problem with mine, but usually use it only for large quantities. If you're referring to the way the sliced/shredded food comes out of the unit, you might try using a large ziploc bag tightened around the exit where the food comes out. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Friday, 06(VI)/13(XIII)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- When you're a god, you don't have to have reasons. ------------------------------------------- |

I usually use it for larger quantities because I don't want to get the parts out of the cupboard. Even a food processor entails mess and parts to wash. If you are doing just a little a knife is easiest or if doing just a bit more, one of those V-slicers for for $20-25 is the bee's knees -- quick, simple, easy to clean, easy to store. I have all three products. . .I had the KA first complete with the accessories as a gift. I got the V-slicer next and wouldn't trade it for anything. Last purchase was a KA food processor and I wouldn't trade it for anything either, but I use it for different things than the V-slicer. Janet |

I know I don't have the best hand strength .. but I had to use pliers to get it tight enough. Second, I had a hard time locking the main pc in place (I don't have this problem w/ other attachments) I really had to fight with it. And then ... a lot of the food didn't go into the container that I was holding .... a lot of it shot out ... or was left in the blade (I was cutting radish and shredding carrots) The Zip Loc idea sounds like a good one ... maybe I'll try that next. That would fix the shooting out problem (even on slow speeds) |

New trick. Thanks for sharing the youtube link. I don't think I saw that tip for the KA Shredder/Slicer attachment in its instructions. And all this time I'd been using pliers to separate the shredder/slice die from the turnshaft! Heh! Sky, who won't forget this handy hint -- Ultra Ultimate Kitchen Rule - Use the Timer! If you want radishes perfectly sliced parallel to the radish's equator, I think you need a sharp knife. And you pretty much (if I remember correctly; I haven't used one of those in about 25 years) have to fill the hopper with product‹the nature of the beast. I don't see me using that slicer for radishes; I'd use it for shredding cabbage, carrots; slicing lots of onions if I didn't care which way the slice went. Box graters are great kitchen tools My box grater has one side with three slicing blade protrusions; makes quick work of very nicely slicing carrots, cukes, zukes, any firm veggie, even radishes. Of course as with most veggies you still need to prep, the radish by paring off the stem and root ends. But I very rarely would slice more than like one bunch of radishes at once (perhaps a dozen) so I'd just continue by slicing with the parer... radishes tend to roll about with any kind of powered slicing gadget and makes radish scraps, I get much nicer uniform slices with a knife... sometimes I want very thin slices for garnish, then I use my veggie peeler to make slices, can even go round and round making a long thin wavy strip, makes a lovely pink carnation. For the home kitchen the fewer electrical appliances the better, the best tools are your hands. |

Get the guard as well. or something like the joyce chen mandoline: <http://www.amazon.com/Joyce-Chen-Inch-Asian-Mandoline/dp/B0001VQIIG> ....there are cheaper knock-offs at asian markets. there's a box below the slicer which catches the shreds, making it less messy. but they are for smaller jobs. your pal, blake |
