Out running more errands for Mom today, we stopped to have lunch in downtown
Beaufort. Panini's Cafe is in the heart of downtown with an upper level with views overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway (Beaufort River). There's an outside deck in the back which also affords a view of the riverfront park and waterway but it was too hot to sit out there today. Panini's is located inside the old Beaufort Bank building which predates the Civil War. Fantastic architectural details include huge period fan light windows on two sides of the upper level, a hammered tin ceiling and wonderful crown molding details. I just love old places like this ![]() I had the Crab Lasagna layered with marscapone, spinach and (of course) crab meat. It was accompanied by a chilled artichoke hearts/tomato coulli (?). I don't normally care for chilled vegetables and fruits but I adore artichokes and it was really quite tasty. He decided to try the (local) Shrimp Cheese Steak Sandwich, which is accompanied by roasted tomatoes and marscapone seasoned with Old Bay. Both meals were excellent! The service was very good even though we had a trainee taking care of us (under the helpful eye of an experienced server). The restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. If you ever get to Beaufort, SC I highly recommend this place. Jill |

Sounds delicious. I'm glad you both enjoyed your meals. kili |

I just love old places like this ![]() Interesting structure... is it a rehabilitated old bank building? The building looks old, but that semi-circle window makes me think "new", so I can't tell.... is it "movie revival"? <LOL> > >I had the Crab Lasagna layered with marscapone, spinach and (of course) crab >meat. It was accompanied by a chilled artichoke hearts/tomato coulli (?). Was the coulis more tomato than artichoke and did they use it like extra tomato sauce to dress the lasagna? >I don't normally care for chilled vegetables and fruits but I adore >artichokes and it was really quite tasty. Chilled? So was it more of a pie? The fruit (plum) coulis I've had were more like a fruit quiche. >He decided to try the (local) >Shrimp Cheese Steak Sandwich, which is accompanied by roasted tomatoes and >marscapone seasoned with Old Bay. My son has abused Old Bay (he seasons pork chops with it - UGH), so I can honestly say that I only like it as crab boil - with lots of lemon of course. -- I never worry about diets. The ones on the sides you can't see (or perhaps you can if they show photos of the upper level of the restaurant on the web site) are original to the structure. It was just sort of piled up next to the wedge of crab lasagna (both of which were sitting on a bed of indiscernible sauce that was artfully drizzled with something equally indiscernible ![]() There was much more artichoke than tomato; it was cold so I gather it was like a salad-type accompaniment. >> He decided to try the (local) >> Shrimp Cheese Steak Sandwich, which is accompanied by roasted >> tomatoes and marscapone seasoned with Old Bay. > > My son has abused Old Bay (he seasons pork chops with it - UGH), so I > can honestly say that I only like it as crab boil - with lots of lemon > of course. I haven't done a shrimp or crab boil in years! But the seasoning blend isn't the same thing as the boil mix. Sorry about your son abusing whichever it was ![]() Jill |

I did go to their website yesterday after you posted the name of the place, and I perused the menu. I could eat there. :~) kili |
