Default Anyone own the Salsa Express manual food chopper?

Or is there a better alternative? I want something non-electric which
can chop, and mix and take up little space to store (talkin' boat
here.)
Thanks

Yes. A good knife.

By the way, Val, I've received your offlist emails, but I get a hard
bounce when I try to respond to them.

A good knife or a food processor.

I'll agree with the good knife, but will strongly disagree with using a
food processor of any kind for a fresh salsa. The mechanical choppers
might work for chopping the onion and jalepeno, but they make mush of
the tomato. I find that hand-dicing the tomato gives the best
consistency. YMMV

Equipping a boat is a fun challenge as one thing you want to avoid is
cluttering it up with things with little usefulness. Assuming "salsa
express" was a brand/product name I googled and found a description.
It is essentially a hand operated food processor that you spin with a
crank handle. Comes with a mixer blade in addition to the knife blade
and you can also use it as a small salad spinner.

I basically agree with those who say that a good knife (and more
practice) could be all you need, but if you don't like knife work this
could be a handy gadget for 14.95USD. One stern caution: if it turns
out to be crap and you don't like it, don't throw it overboard! Never
throw any plastic overboard! -aem

This is a bon voyage gift for a couple who are going to try the
cruisin' life. BTDT - I got by with a cutting board, a knife or two,
one saucepan and one skillet. (Only had two burners.)
Maybe I'll forget the whole idea.

Zyliss smaller size (under $20). EZ 2 clean. Fast. Gets out your
aggression (you pound the top bam! bang! bonk!) You can buy
replacement parts individually for a few bucks. Comes in a bigger
size, too.

Lynn from Fargo
10 bams for diced onion, 18 bams for minced onion . . .

If it's the one that looks like a small processor with a crank on the
top, it's really a piece of junk. The cutting blade is too flimsy
and instead of cutting when you crank, it pushes the tomato around the
bowl without much chopping being done.

Yes, I know the demonstration looks wonderful, but the one they sell you
is a waste of time, money, and space.

Don't ask me how I know.

My brother swears by his. Makes salsa a few times a week with it. Me, I
use a knife.
