Default The Chef's Table

The Chef's Table

Just heard from #1 Bud. Him and his son were invited to the chef's table in
the restaurant's kitchen.

That's quite an honor if I'm not mistaken.

They just casually walked in and were invited, without reservations!

Ever been to a chef's table?

I guess that would depend greatly on the restaurant and the chef. :-)

Wayne,

Don't remember the name of the place, nor ever been there. Can't vouch for
the food OR the chef!

Maybe this July 4th.

Best,

Andy

An honor? I used to eat at the chef's table 5 times a week, when I
was an apprentice and journeyman. Big deal. It sounds like you have
too much money. Buy a business and don't go ga ga at this food craze
that will eventually blow over. Who needs to eat goop all the time?
$125.00 for shepards pie? good grief, it's goop with some shit on
top.
$95.00 for pigs snout in maple syrup? I'll take a burger, fries and a
shake before I pay that for stuff that 10 years ago you couldn't give
away.

Who has shepherd's pie for $125?

Never seen that either.

There is a grain of truth there, but not to worry, a substantial
percentage of the folks here aren't snobby about food at all. They
praise the ever so humble Velveeta, and the lacking in any pretension
jarred dried beef (made into SOS no less!), and jarred mayo (and even
Miracle Whip) is often suggested as an appealing cement for pasta,
canned tuna, and various other more or less horrid items.
And there's margarine and Crisco galore; it's a cardiac surgeon's wet dream.

In that case, there's something major they didn't tell you.

You don't walk in without reservations to a popular and expensive
restaurant, get a table that's supposed to be la tee dah and the meal
is gratis? This story doesn't compute. I'm not calling your friend a
liar.... but he's stretching the truth pretty thin.

I didn't see the start of this thread, but one of our local SoCal
Italian beaneries, Buca di Beppo, has a table in the kitchen that may
be reserved and is considered a "fun" and "romantic" thing to do (this
is from my boss who is a lawyer, and 'nuff sed). Personally, I
wouldn't find the clamor and mayhem in a commercial kitchen "fun" or
"romantic." I get enough clamor and mayhem in my own kitchen.

To reply, replace "meatloaf" with "cox"

You probably don't *remember* much about it. The others probably do. Do
they still hang out with you?
