Default Wedding menu (long)

Dear Son was married this weekend in front of a small group of about 30
closest friends and relatives in Breckenridge, Colorado, an authentic
Victorian mining town turned ski resort .It was a lovely ceremony, a
beautiful bride and a very handsome, proud groom.

The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour with tapas on the patio of
a local restaurant in an old Victorian house (Cafe Alpine for those who
know the area), and dinner indoors. The menu:

Tapas:
oriental barbecued lamb with vegetables in phyllo cups
small pizza squares with fresh tomato and shredded basil
a cheese and fruit tray including Humbolt Fog goat cheese
duck canapes with lingonberry mousse

The specialty of the open bar was raspberry margaritas with Chambord

Salad course was choice of classic Caesar or Gorgonzola salad with mixed
greens, heirloom tomatoes, and garlic-red wine vinaigrette

Entree choices:
Wasabi-crusted sea scallops with Harusame noodles and Japanese vegetable
salad, yuzu-avocado mash and orange ponzu sauce

Lemon-thyme marinated Niman Ranch pork chop with wild mushroom stuffing,
broccolini and Marsala drizzle

Pepper rubbed medallions of beef tenderloin with cilantro pan-roasted
Yukon gold potatoes,Santa Fe chili relleno and prickly pear sauce

Buffalo mozzarella & heirloom tomato Napoleon with grilled vegetables,
truffled mushroom pasta and Bearnaise vinaigrette (vegetarian entree)

Dessert choices:
Chocolate and peanut enchiladas with Mexican chocolate sauce and
cinnamon ice cream

Tropical fruit ambrosia over macadamia sweet bread with coconut cream
and guava honey

Key lime tart with ginger-graham crust and Sailor Jerry Rum Punch sauce

Duo of sorbets; raspberry and mango with housemade biscotti

Wines were an Italian pinot grigio and a Calif. pinot noir

An open house was held the following day for about 100 friends and
co-workers in the couple's back yard. Microbrew beers, wines, and a ton
of finger food. A great time was had by all.

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
Food sounds marvelous! I like the idea of the wedding day being small,
yet then having another party the next day.
Who picked the menu? Was it as wonderful to eat as it is to read?
Pictures welcome via email

No. Unlike the rest of the world, the U.S. calls its "Mains"
entrees. Yes, I know, we're wrong, but you know it's not
for the first time....

The food was marvelous. Menu chosen by the Happy Couple.
Her parents and siblings sampled much/most of the food
the previous weekend and warned us we were in for a treat.
Her dad chose the wines.

I will get pictures sent to interested people (or posted on
our daughter's website) as soon as I learn how. :-(
It could take a while.

Sounds fabulous Gloria! So nice to have a great wedding day and a
reception the following day for many. Food sounded out of this world!

Please send photos. I have a niece getting married, along the same
lines, in September. Then she & new husband go off to China to work
for Intel for 2 years. We, of course, wish them all the happiness.

My sister and I want to help our brother be successful in the wedding
arrangements.

Yeah, my Australian visitor told me that too. She was holding onto
her seat when I would make a turn..she was so sure I was turning into
oncoming traffic...LOL

But I showed her how we were right in some things..... I fixed her pot
roast, which she had never ever had...had never encountered it in
Australia. She loved it!!

One thing I didn't mention was that we had orchids everywhere.
The bride wore tiny red orchids in her hair and carried an informal
bouquet of branches of the same. The blossoms were a bit smaller than a
US quarter and lovely against her champagne-colored dress.

The altar had a large spray of the same flowers with some
curly twigs and red berries the florist said were St. John 's Wort.

The restaurant tables had two or three pots each of white orchids which
my son-in-law's brother sent from the orchid farm where he is a
marketing guy,in Pahoa, maybe?

They had been delivered to my house the week before and were in perfect
condition and stunning.

The advice I can give you from attending many, many weddings over the
years is to stick with what you all are comfortable with, be true to
your heritage. Since the couple is moving to China, they might want to
combine some Chinese decor with Hawaiian traditions.

I have found over and over that the most meaningful weddings are based
on what's important to the couple and allow them to express love for
each other and family. Making an impression for guests should be way
down on the list of what's important.

Couples who want to make their wedding a Broadway production (I'm
thinking of the few "Renaissance weddings" we've attended that felt so
contrived and fake. Every bride and groom are king and queen of their
wedding day but that doesn't mean they have to look like Anne Boleyn (?)
and Henry the Eighth!

Think about the weddings that have felt "right" to you and try to get
that feeling into your planning.
