Default Silicone poached egg cups

I saw these silicone poached egg cups at Linens and Things and finally
got around to trying them today.
http://i26.tinypic.com/161kl00.jpg

Since I've never used silicone before (in any form ;-) I thought I'd
butter one and leave the other un buttered for sticky comparison.
http://i30.tinypic.com/28i0vf4.jpg

Plopped into a pot of boiling water, covered and turned the flame
down.
http://i26.tinypic.com/2hwid5l.jpg

While these were cooking I fried up a couple of potato patties and
served them on top. Guess which egg came from the un buttered cup.
http://i32.tinypic.com/2z8bvht.jpg

Delicious anyway.

Lemme see......

I've been considering one of the silicon steamers. I hate cleaning my
steel leaf-type steamer; I feel like I should at least get a swipe with
the sponge in on each side of each leaf, and that's a pretty tedious job
since they never completely un-overlap. The silicon unit looks easier.

I've been tempted to get one also, my metal steamer has seen better
days.
A good excuse to go to the kitchen shop again.

LOL!!! I first saw them about 5 days ago on a TV program about kitchen
gadgets and said to the SO, "I want some of those!!"

I've been using silicon muffin trays, and cake 'tins', for a couple of
years now. I used to think they didn't need to be greased.

One carrot cake showed me that was not the case :-)

Well, if you aren't the clever one. Looks delicious.
Did you butter the cups first?

Tried to butter them, but being winter here, the butter is damn hard all
the time, so I used an oil spray.

I thought I was going to have a hard time actually getting them out, but
I used that silicone spatula in the last pic and just scooped it under,
and they lifted out with no breakages :-)

All my silicon pieces said to grease or oil the first time, but if you wash
in the DW I think it needs to be done everytime. I was wildly curious about
what silicon egg poachers would look like! I thought of muffin tins, to,
but I rarely need 6 poached eggs!

Did you see Peter Lucas's post? He used a muffin "tin". I'm sure if
you don't need to poach 6 eggs you could put some water in the empty
cups. I remember my mom used an old metal stove top egg poaching pan
and put water in the empty cups when she didn't use them all.

Interesting. Did the eggs take longer than usual? Intuitively it would
seem that the silicone would not conduct heat as well as metal. I've
been using a little stainless mise-en-place bowl shaped like a Paul
Revere bowl for poaching and it works quite well but I like the look of
yours.

Koko!!!!!

You were right!!!

For those of you wondering what Koko was right about, we had this
discussion in chat. I said, when I saw the first pics, that the
silicone cups looked like bra cups....

And Koko thought she knew who would make the first comment in that
direction....

I have a 4-egg poacher that came with my egg cooker, which poaches
beautifully in its non-stick surface, PLUS, I can also use the cooker
to make 8 hard-boiled eggs for deviled eggs or potato salad, without
paying attention to the timing or fussing with it at all.

Egg cooker: a Good Thing.
