I am an iced tea gal. I drink it year round, and have for as long as I can
remember. Lately, though, because of some medication I'm taking, tea tastes off to me, no matter which tea I use. Some days I can drink it, but some, not so much. Ice water is good, but lately I find myself wanting something else. What do you like to drink in the summer when it's good and hot outside? Today I made iced espresso with cinnamon and a a couple teaspoons of half & half, shaken with ice. That was good! Any other ideas? kimberly |

It doesn't get any more simple or refreshing than that. |

No lemon, Unsweetened. All day long. Of course later in the day, Sheldon has the right idea. Except too much grapefruit juice can 'loosen' one's digestive system. So, I generally prefer LOTS of ice with much Scotch. Van |

My personal favorite is iced tea made from loose Earl Grey tea. If you haven't tried Earl Grey, it might be worth a shot, as it has a very distinctive flavor unlike the usual teas most folks use for iced tea. Another "tea" I like is Red Zinger, which isn't really made from tea plant leaves. It has a decided sour/citrus flavor. I'm not fond of sweet beverages most of the time, although I will occasionally have a soda if I'm eating a burger or pizza. Sweet beverages, however, are not the best solution to hot weather. They usually make you even more thirsty. I also like iced espesso with half and half. In fact, I pick one up on my way to work almost every morning. The cinnamon is a nice touch, which I do add occasionally. An iced mocha is good, too...espresso with chocolate syrup, which you can also get sugar-free. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Wednesday, 07(VII)/02(II)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Stability itself is nothing else than a more sluggish motion. ------------------------------------------- |

![]() I've wondered about this. When the temperature is lower than 80 degrees, I drink water when I'm thirsty. Plain, ordinary, room temperature water, straight from the kitchen faucet. As it goes higher, I crave carbonated soda, usually gingerale. Ten months can go by, and I have no use for soda at all, see other people drinking it and don't understand. Then as it gets hotter, it's like I can't live without it. One friend explained that there's something in the carbonation that helps us asorb the water faster or more efficiently. That didn't make sense to me, but it's the only thing that explains how I can go from finding a drink totally unappealing to the only thing I want in about 10 degrees. --Lia |

What's expensive... lemons at my local market cost 59 cents each... you can easily slice one into six wedges, eight wedges if you're Jewish. And my local market is pricey... but last week I was at Sam's Club, a mesh bag of a dozen lemons or limes cost $2.99... I got a bag of limes... that's 72 wedges at a nickle each, how much cheaper you lookin'? I've been splurging by slicing them into quarters, or they'd dry out before I use them all. Lemon's ain't expensive, seltzer is what's expensive. |

A nice, refreshing and filling drink with a light supper of maybe an ear
of fresh corn on the cob and a fresh-from-the-garden tomato sandwich on a hot, humid summer evening is to mix in the blender some 7-up and enough of your favorite flavor of sherbet (I prefer lime or orange) to make a blend that's thickish but still drinkable. Yum! |

I am not really a soda drinker - and I really don't like diet soda but I do like Fresca. I top off my vodka (cheap brand of choice:Gordon) with a splash of diet cran-grape. Salty dog: The Salty Dog is the saline version of the popular "canine" drink, the Greyhound. These two drinks are great, if you learn one you know the other; just switch the vodka with gin and salt the glass rim and the your Greyhound becomes a Salty Dog. Personally I like this drink better, the gin adds depth to the grapefruit and if you add a dash of peach bitters, WOW! Ingredients: 2 oz gin 4 oz grapefruit juice salt for rimming lemon or lime wedge for garnish Preparation: Pour the ingredients into a collins glass rimmed with salt and filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge. -- Old Scoundrel (AKA Dimitri) |

Not only that, I find it the funniest thing. I'll make some ordinary dish, lemon cookies or salad dressing. Someone will rave and ask me my secret. There's no secret, I reply. Just use fresh lemon juice and real lemon zest. The next thing I know, said friend will come back with her rendition of the same recipe. "It just doesn't turn out as well as yours. My daughter works at a fast food joint and her description of the condition of the iced tea urn and the freshness of the tea has put me right off of ordering it. So, at fast food joints it's diet soda. At home I make iced tea or mint tea, or I just have skim milk in a big frozen glass. It is, frequently, the skim milk that comes in the big square gallon containers from Costco and frankly I don't see what the fuss is all about. I've never made a mess pouring milk from one of them. I save the empties, rinse them out and fill them about halfway with tap water for freezing in the downstairs deep freeze. When we travel to tournaments I pull them out, top them off with tap water and use them as a supply of ice-y cold, chemically familiar water for my dogs during racing. The square jugs are especially convenient because they fit into the corners of my travel cooler so neatly. |
