Beets (and turnips) don't taste like dirt (or poison)! Beets, roasted, pickled, steamed, or boiled are loverly! Turnips, roasted and salted, or added to a lamb stew in place of potatoes are ambrosial! The Ranger |

But when you serve them to a person with automimmune liver disease, the resultant changes in urine color can be alarming without prior warning. "Geezus! I thought it was time to alert the transplant team!" |

She's another that doesn't enjoy that tuber in any form and vacates the premises upon discovering its lovely bouquet wafting through the kitchen... The Ranger |

However, this begs a question on whether there is some dirt somewhere that tastes like beetroots. Apparently, some people on this newsgroup have a lot of experience in dirt consumption, so maybe they can answer this question. Victor |

That happens if you feed beets to young children also. Both number 1 and 2. I just about freaked when my younger son (who was two) ate beets and this happened! JB |

I liked raw potatoes as a kid until my grandmother told me I'd get worms from eating them like that. I think she really believed it, too, and wasn't just telling me that to keep me from hanging around while she cooked dinner. |
