Close, but no. It's when you buy a second copy of a book
you already have.

Does buying a second copy count if you do it because you lent it to
somebody?

The I Don't Know How to Cook Book Mexican: 300 Everyday Easy Mexican
Recipes--That Anyone Can Make. Linda Rodriguez won't be released for a
while yet. But I know little of mexican cooking so the ease of the basic
recipes is a good thing. 300 recipes should be able to find 1 or 2 I'll
enjoy. Latter when more at ase in the style I'll move on to less basic
recipes or not.

Mangoes and curry leaves. Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid
has Chis D thumbs up so it should be good.

Well..I hope it is good. I haven't cooked from it yet, but it is an
interesting read, and several of the recipes do look very good.

Isn't it nice that that series is available at a low price now?
Having procrastinated for years at the higher prices, I finally
got the SE Asian volume. Do you recommend the German one? Any
other recommendations?

I splurged yesterday and got The Oxford Companion to American Food
and Drink. Ouch, even with a discount coupon! I THINK the last
current cookbook I got was Neelam Batra's 1000 Indian Recipes. Of
course, I also have gotten several old cookbooks and some Boston
Cooking School and American Cookery magazines.

The German one is superb, as is all the rest of the series. Beautifully
photographed and great recipes. Get them all

Companion to American Food and Drink: good choice. Yours truly has some
articles in there (under my real name, which I'm not telling LOL).
There is a concise version, which is the one they gave us!

Thanks for that tip. I will get them as I see them--sometimes for
all of $6 or so!

I don't suppose you'd send it in an email? Now I am most curious.
I wonder whether I would even get a clue if I read every single
word!

I don't think I've seen the concise version.... Anyhoo, I'd been
eying the tome for about 6 months, I guess, hoping I'd at least
have a hefty coupon to add to my normal book discount. I ended up
using an okay coupon at a store with NO discount, just because I
am trying to throw them some business.

Culinaria: The Caribbean looks promising...it becomes availible up here in
Jan 09 as a trade paperback...might get that one. Being of European stock I
have a mess of old country recipes and like to examine differing culture's
recipes.

YW! We paid 14.00 at Costco. They didn't have much of a selection but
will keep looking.

You might if you read carefully! Other people who used to post to this
group have articles in there as well.

If we hadn't been sent the concise version, wouldn't have seen it
either. Not exactly a mass-market book in either size

Mostly we bought it for the photos LOL! Plus there are some regional
recipes in there with which I'm not familiar, or else my mother knew
what they were but not how to prepare them.

The really cheap ones are at Borders, if that does you any good.
I have seen two different prices on them though. I forget what
the more expensive (but still a bargain) price is.

Sigh. Am I really going to have to peruse this?

Hmm... have money left on the Barnes and Noble gift card but nothing on
the Borders card

Very few books from OUP are. The 'Companion to Food' [different book
and I'm not in that one] doesn't weigh too much

Not to read through. More to check for research purposes. But
then I need to assure myself of every single thing by scrolling
through documents myself.

Heh. I have that one too--actually the Penguin paperback edition,
which does weigh considerably less.
