About an hour before dinner:
Whoops only lettuce in the veggie keeper. I need something else. Cut a Granny Smith Apple into a small dice (1/4 to1/3 inch square) Add some dried cranberries (Crasins) Toss with balsamic vinegar. Any from your menu? -- Old Scoundrel (AKA Dimitri) |

Or one or more of the following from the pantry: olives pickled beets onions sunflower seeds Or sometimes I'll just make croutons from whatever bread I have lying around. They're usually in the produce department on shelves which run along the top of the produce display. They're there with the fried wonton strips, the croutons, and other crunchy stuff for salad toppings. See www.almondaccents.com for some examples. Bob |

Thanks. ![]() Now I *know* I've never noticed them and why. I simply don't look in that area for anything. I'm simply not interested. I make my own croutons when I want some and none of the other stuff interests me. To be honest, flavored almonds would be like flavored coffee is for me. BLECH! Very similar: lettuce, diced apple, blackeyed peas, walnut oil and cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Don't go too heavy on the vinegar, hard to screw up otherwise. Steve |

A garlic clove lightly crushed and shaken with the dressing but then strained and discarded. Bob |

A trick from my ex MIL - when fresh tomatoes are too expensive, too
under ripe, out of season or just like orange tennis balls in general . . . use diced fresh navel or valencia oranges. A handful of frozen peas is good too. Lynn in Fargo |
