Corn syrup is bad!

Hallo!
The label on my Heinz Ketchup lists "Corn Syrup". Thus I will no
longer be using us Heinz Ketchup.

I want to make my own ketchup but the ingredients shown on the Heinz
bottle are cryptic, in that they show spices as an ingredient, but do
not list them.

Please, someone, a recipe for a great ketchup..I can sub organic
unfiltered honel for the syrup.

ThanX!

Is ALL corn syrup bad, or just high-fructose corn syrup?

Corn syrup isn't necessarily "bad," even high-fructose corn syrup. HFCS
is, however, pandemic. It's in everything, including items you'd never
expect find it in and whether it's needed or not. *That* is what makes
it "bad."

There is some debate though about HFCS, in that there is some evidence
coming out to support that it cuts off one of our satiation triggers.
So if you are eating stuff with HFCS, you might not feel full when you
actually are.

Hence, the obesity epidemic.

Corn syrup isn't all that bad, and there's not all that much of it
in a bottle of ketchup.

If you insist on making your own there are recipes you can Google but be
aware that you will probably start off with a bushel of tomatoes and
$25 worth of spices and end up with about a pint of very disappointingly
flavored tomato sauce many hours later.

Some things need to be left to the experts. Only Heinz makes Heinz.

You fail to state the competing argument. Specifically,
HFCS (which - by the way - I try to avoid) has replaced
sugar in many products but in greater amounts.

If you're used to Heinz, or any bottled ketchups, you will not find
a recipe for ketchup to your liking.

My suggestion would be to continue using Heinz and risk the chance
of dying a few seconds earlier than you would had you avoided Heinz
ketchup.

There are also ketchups without HFCS that the original poster might try:

I believe their organic catsup doesn't contain corn syrup.

I'll second that. When I used to can I tried several times to make ketchup,
it sucked big - time...and that's with using several different recipes.
Total waste 'o time, stick with Heinz...

Yup, I bought some bottled green tea (supermarket brand) - no flavor,
just green tea. (I hated the flavored teas!)

Ingredients? "Water, high fructose corn syrup ....." Wha??

Calories: 80.

It went in the garbage. Whoda thunk you'd have to read the label on a
bottle of what was labeled as "tea?"

Oh ugh. Speaking of that, I was stunned to see HFCS in Paul
Newman's refrigerated beverages--and also, for a totally different
reason, to see them in Minute Maid's light beverages. At least it
makes some sense in that context, even if I don't like it. Oyster
sauce? Yes, we really do have to read every single label now. :-(

Well there has to be something in it. Fat -free milk sounds
suspiciously like whey to me.
