It wasn't on the list, but what the heck...

At the supermarket I picked up my first "no-salt added" bag of Utz (brand
name) potato chips. First potato chips of the year!

What wasn't on YOUR list in your house recently?

A soft cheese called something like "cambozola," labeled "triple cream
blue cheese." It was pretty tasty on Triscuits. Not as strongly
flavored as other blue cheeses, more interesting than brie. -aem

The "Handy Dandy Andy Muzzle". It would have been on my list had I
known it existed.

Try it with pear. I ate half of mine with a tartish apple. Wasn't
bad, but I'm getting a pear for the rest of it.

Me? CRABBY!!?!? Blow me!

I only get to post for an hour or two during the weekdays lately since
I've been working long hours, so I had to post as much crab as I can
in as little time as possible to keep up my reputation.

I just set up a news server/newsreader on a couple computers at work
so now maybe I'll have time to post more. Like right now. I already
posted some completely impartial, food-related stuff already today

Wensleydale cheese with cranberries.

I had it at a friend's house not too long ago and really enjoyed it. It
was an impulse buy.

The plan was to have a little after dinner last night - but I totally
forgot I bought it until right this minute.

I guess I will have it tonight instead while watching "Waitress".

DH is cooking tonight - probably steak tips and maybe some grilled
broccoli.

We LOVE cambozola. (CAMembert / gorgonZOLA). Carin seriously goes into
a state of cheesegasm when I put it in salad.

I went and browsed for "Walters" (?) shortbread cookies. Big mistake,
anyway. The guy stacking the shelves declared there were none of my version

Nabisco stopped making them years ago. Do you still see them on occasion?

Hydrox is going to be made again for a while. Should be available in August.

Same here, I don't really care for Oreos. If they make Hydrox and Brown
Edge Wafers again, I'll be in cookie heaven. The two best ever, IMO.

The Sunshine Bakery brand of "Oreo" style cookies.
I can't stand anything in the product line by Sunshine Bakery. They
always have an unappealing rancid flavor and soft texture to me. Weird.

I haven't had Hydrox in maybe 50 years, but I always thought they were
greatly inferior to Oreos. They had less chocolate flavor and were hard
as rocks and didn't absorb milk or soften when you dipped them. Ick.

Think Oreo but made by Sunshine (I think). Less expensive, maybe, than
Nabisco's Oreos.

A cookie given a name that makes it sound like an industrial cleaner or

That is one reason they have not done as well as the Oreo. Hydrox was the
first, (and best, IMO) but Oreo had better marketing.

I totally agree. Hydrox has always been my favorite, both in texture and

But they had to have been smoking something when they dreamed up the name.

Hydrox actually preceeded the Oreo by several years, and Wikipedia offers
an explanation for the name.

"Hydrox is the brand name for an early and successful creme-filled
chocolate sandwich cookie which debuted in 1908 and was manufactured by
Sunshine Biscuits. Its unusual name was formed from those of the atomic
elements which make up pure water: hydrogen and oxygen.[1] Some accounts
report the Oreo—introduced later, in 1912—was inspired by the Hydrox, yet
Hydrox suffered from the misimpression it was a knockoff. Compared to the
Oreo, the Hydrox had a "tangy, less-sweet filling" and a crunchier cookie
that stood up better in milk.[2]"

The comparison of the two at the end of the quote is exactly why I prefer
Hydrox. And...why many other people don't. :-)

Wellyeah, I knew that (or assumed it, anyway). It's still a horrible name
for a cookie.
