understandable, but they should at least offer brown or something else
more robust than yellow.

i like for egg slices to be there, but i usually just pick them up and
eat them 'separately,' with maybe extra salt and pepper.

we could have a potato salad cook-off. kind of like a chili cook-off,
but probably more boring and with less drinking.

After the second world war, the combination of a huge Allied
(primarily US Navy) occupying force in Naples and tight control
of the city by local organized crime results in a situation
where a large fraction of the women in the city (close to half)
were forced into prostitution.

It was not exactly the U.S. military's proudest moment.

At the same time many men from the area had been taken as
prisoners of war in the war's last months, and due to food
shortages in Europe a lot of these POW's were shipped to camps
in the U.S., where many of them ended up being processed by
immigration and became U.S. citizens.

War does screwy things to a city, even after the fighting has stopped.

Yep! I wanted something like this:

Spinach Salad with Warm Bacon Dressing, Alton Brown

8 ounces young spinach
2 large eggs
8 pieces thick-sliced bacon, chopped
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 large white mushrooms, sliced
3 ounces red onion (1 small), very thinly sliced

Remove the stems from the spinach and wash, drain and pat dry
thoroughly.
Place into a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Place the eggs into a large pot and cover with cold water by at least
1
inch. Bring to a boil, turn off heat and cover the pot. Leave the
eggs in
the water for 15 minutes. Remove and peel the eggs while warm. Slice
each
egg into 8 pieces and set aside.

While the eggs are cooking, fry the bacon and remove to a paper towel
to
drain, reserving 3 tablespoons of the rendered fat. Crumble the bacon
and
set aside.

Transfer the fat to a small saucepan set over low heat and whisk in
the red
wine vinegar, sugar and Dijon mustard. Season with a small pinch each
of
kosher salt and black pepper.

Add the mushrooms and the sliced onion to the spinach and toss. Add
the
dressing and bacon and toss to combine. Divide the spinach between 4
plates
or bowls and evenly divide the egg among them. Season with pepper, as
desired. Serve immediately.

Yield: 4 servings

It's already happening in Iraq. I was reading an article in the
current Marie Claire about Iraqi women who have fled to Amman Jordan
and are now prostitutes. It's a pretty disturbing article.

Well it's classic, and classic isn't too vogue anymore in most upscale
restaurants. At least around here. Most old fashioned steak houses
still have them. They're not hard to make but assuming you're cooking
for one it can turn into to much work. It's not like you can make two
and have one tomorrow.

I made potato salad this morning, about a 2-day batch. I used
only what was on hand, so no radishes or celery this time.
I included red onion, shallot, carrot, tofu, and hard-boiled egg,
and dressed it with olive oil, white wine vinegar, prepared
mustard, Ojai Lemonaisse Light, Bay Seasoning, and a squirt
of balsamic vinegar. The basalmic vinegar was an accident,
I thought I had grabbed an olive oil bottle of the same shape.
But no harm done.

Medium fresh tofu made by Hoda Soy. It's really good. I'm eating
the potato salad right now.

Lower quality tofu would suck pretty badly in a potato
salad, but this stuff is good.

There was also a study of Japanese men in Hawaii.

The net result is going to be a gazillion vegans walking around saying "what

Thanks.

Turns out I am already cutting back on tofu, due to the
