Had several week long meetings in Scottsdale at the Fairmont.

You know you've arrived when on the way there are no Chevy not Ford Dealers,
Just Mercedes, Beemer, Porsche, Jag. etc.

Just a little out of my league.

But you never know when that might happen. :-)

Persoanlly I enjoy seeing women with a modest amount of makeup on. I
suppose it might be more common in many places in the US than in some
places in Scotland. I dunno.

LOL! You must have blinked when you passed the dealership that sells
Bentleys and Aston-Martins. :-)

They would probably lock the doors if they saw me approaching.

From 1983 through 2005 my daily driver was a Triumph TR7. British Racing
Green, of course. From 1985 to about 2003, only one mechanic worked
on it (well, he and his boss, my friend that ran that one-mechanic
British-cars-only shop). When my friend retired, my mechanic went
elsewhere -- to a Jag shop by name, and it was mostly Jags in fact. The
first time I went there, to stick with my mechanic, I popped in without an
appointment for something relatively minor. The bays were full of cars I
could not afford, including, IIRC three XKEs. After a chat with the
owner, he said he could take a look at my car, and to let him move another
one out of a bay for me. The car that came out and got parked was an Aston
Martin. I shivered. And yeah, I really *couldn't* afford that shop.

Can't think of a thing that has surprised me in the past few

In areas where WallWorld is the premier shopping venue, maybe they really
do "dress" to go there. :-) All things are relative.

In the WalMart I stop at occasionally, I see a wide range dress, from
poorer than dirt poor (and dirty), to biker leather, to folks decently
dressed to stay cool, to folks obviously still dressed for work on their
way home. I've ceased to be surprised by how people dress.

They generally are, but there are some where I feel the need to keep an
assured clear distance. :-) My last unpleasant encounter was standing in
line behind someone whose personal hygiene nearly made me vomit, that
combined with the unmistakable odor of a body saturated with alcohol
literally oozing from every pore.

II wear the same clothing to shop that I wear to work. Standard dress in the
summer at our company is shorts and T shirt. Yes, this includes my boss,
the president.

I believe I was born and raised in flip flops. Love 'um.

I didn't know people look at other peoples feet. Hmmm...
My feet are clean and don't hang over the sides.
Guess I'll have to start 'feet watching' now.

A teenage friend had your Triumph. I think it spent more time in the shop
than on the road. But it looked great standing still anyway!!!

Sandi,

I do too. Here when you walk by most folks there's usually a "Good Morning"

I never look at shoppers feet! Does it matter that mine aren't flip-flops
but rather leather sandles? I never wear closed shoes in warm weather.

I'm barefoot around the house but I wear Vasque leather and steel-shanked
hiking boots everywhere else. Saves my arches!!!

I also have a foot bath/massage unit, like you soak your feet in for
pedicures, which I've had. Been teased over and over about having my nails
done!

Every man should have a pedicure, imho!

I like the idea, and several years ago decided I would start doing that.
However, after the very first time I had it done I developed an ingrown
nail and fungal infection on my right large toe. Surgery and nearly a
year's worth of anti-fungal medication was my reward! I had never
previously had any type of problem.

Wayne,

Now THAT'S an unfortunate shame! Put you off of pedicures, no doubt!

Don't laugh, Dimitri. In Dallas, one had to get dressed in full regalia
(makeup, manicure, everything) to go to the car wash. One supermarket
near a predominantly singles apt complex was a notorious pickup spot.
There were some people who overdressed to go shopping for a reason other
than picking up milk or dates. One morning I pulled into the grocery
store parking lot with two Dallas police cars behind me. Apparently an
enterprising young man decided to shoplift prime rib steaks by stuffing
them into his sweats.

I got the good one. Very reliable.

When I did need some small part, the pimpleface at the NAPA (or whatever)
parts store, when I said "for a Triumph TR7", would go, "We don't do
motorcycle parts."

Blinky,

Triumph motorcycles were sold to CBS (a TV concern) which became an
American company. Pre-CBS + Brittish made. The pre-CBS could drive without
brake lights/headlights.

I am not laughing. If I were single and in the market again - I would
rather meet a woman in the grocery store than pick her up in a bar/tavern.
The son of a good friend & I were chatting. He was complaining that all the
girls he had been dating lately have a drinking problem. Jerry, His dad
asked where he was meeting the girls - He answered BARS & Mightclubs.

In my case however it would be the Metamucil aisle
