Living in AZ, it fairly easy to find Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico, which
contains cane sugar.

I use to like TAB. I have no idea what it tastes like now or even
if it's being sold anywhere.

I've never experienced the 'aftertaste' I've heard you and others
mentioned. Way back when... I could drink any brand of soda pop.
Diet or not. I just don't remember any odd tastes. Maybe my taste
buds have been shot since birth.

I'd rather have water, tea or coffee than soda pop.

I've never tasted a diet soda that I liked. They all seem to have an
aftertaste that I find unpleasant. I rarely drink soft drinks of any type,
though. Only occasionally with a burger or pizza.

My primary beverage is iced tea; 2nd is iced coffee.

When it was introduced, it was both the best and worst tasting diet soda
out there. It's held the second distinction since the second diet soda
was released.

Have you tried cheap ered wine? While most like beer with pizza, that's my
choice.
My world just doesn't give a hoot for Dr. Pepper nor any of the sweet junk
people pour down their throats. My world doesn't even get how you can think
drinking sugar with your food is a good idea, even if it is fake sugar. I
think I am becoming a drinks fundamentalist.

Cola's taste too sweet, so I drink them with a twist of lemon or lime.
My favorite cola is Diet RC, but I usually drink Diet 7-Up or Diet
Sprite. I will go all week without drinking a soda, I drink water with
lemon most of the time.

According to wikipedia (usual caveats) Diet Rite preceeded Tab by a few
years. I really don't remember Diet Rite much from when I was a kid, I
suspect it was more regional in distribution. Tab and Fresca were the
main diet sodas.

I've been doing Diet Rite for a few years now, as a switch from Diet
Pepsi; the taste is close enough and it has no sodium.

And no, I don't get the "aftertaste" thing others claim. With any diet
soda.

It was a simpler time, indeed, and there are many things about it I miss.
Coincidentally, my dad's parents also ran a small country store. I loved

Amen, Wayne. I've met a few of "us" who don't like diet drinks - to
me, they have a metallic aftertaste that is *immediately* after
swallowing, the *second* air hits the back of my mouth.

There's always that possiblity. :-) Actually, from your picture on the rfc
mugshot page, you look remarkably like an early picture I have of my uncle.

Not for me. In fact, regular sodas have an aftertaste to me. Diet ones
taste "clean".

People often make fun of people who have some dessert
then order a diet coke with it. Fact is, some of us prefer
the taste of diet soda. I do understand why people might
not like it, to each their own.

Same here. Been drinking diet sodas so long, can't drink real sodas unless
they're cut with some whoopee juice.

IMHO, there's nothing wrong with 'trashy' foods now and again. For
example, I consider fast food burgers to be less than healthy (does
that make them trashy?) but I will indulge in a take-out burger
occasionally, plus I usually have a jar of Miracle Whip in the
fridge... and I haven't died - yet.

I drink diet for the most part.s When I do drink a regular sodas they're
overly sweet to me, not unlike those of us who have become so used to
skim milk that anything more tastes like cream!

I think that's really it. I haven't really consumed regular soda in
such a long time that they don't taste right to me.

I much prefer the taste of diet soda to regular. Sugar leaves an
aftertaste and makes me thirsty. Diet soda quenches my thirst better for
that reason. YMMV

How does iced tea make you suffer?

Last night's din - din was cheap baloney and processed "cheese" slices on
white bread...accompanied by my favourite shrimp - flavoured crisps that I
buy from the local Pilipino corner store. Pilipinos eat LOTS of junk food,
it's always fun to peruse the shelves of the place for new treats...

Depends on the person, I suspect. I love iced tea. Also like tea, in
general. But, if I drink too much I 1) end up making too many trips to the
loo, 2) become a bit constipated unless I drink even more water to
counteract the diuretic effects. Strangely, coffee, also a diuretic, does
not effect me this way. So, I'm a coffee fan.

Sounds like something you wring out of the towel afterwards.

I often keep tonic water on hand for vodka tonics or gin and tonics. I
also often end up just drinking the tonic water.

Maybe YOU.

The only thing I use towels for is drying off after a shower.

For me, bologna has the same problem as hotdogs. I grew up on the
"meat" variety, so all-beef doesn't taste right. However, these days
most brands are made with various sorts of mechanically-separated
poultry, and taste insipid and mushy.

You and I are in full agreement. I love trashy foods, in fact, the
trashier the better. If something is trashtastic, that means I love it.
I may not eat it, because I try to limit my carbs, but I still love it.
