Not everybody likes the same things but, really...Do people in this
minority really hate Dr. Pepper THAT much? Dr. Pepper never did
anything to them. I'd like to see them make a soft drink as successful
as the Dr. but I doubt that it would ever happen.

Isn't it obvious? The poster is talking about the people in this minority.
You know...THOSE people. <snicker>

I don't hate Dr.Pepper. I have a a can of it every five years or so.
Judging from the shelf space dedicated to it, it would appear not to be
very popular.

You'd like to see a soft drink as popular? Look at the top sellers:
Diet Coke, Coke, Pepsi.....
Way down the list is Dr. Pepper.

I meant that I would like to see them make a brand new soft drink.
Coke and Pepsi are already established name brands.

I'm asking about anti-Dr. Pepper people. It seems to be that people
either really like it or really hate it.

Not for folks in the souf', Dr. Pepper is THE drink. Of course all cold
drinks, aka soda's, aka pop, are known as "cokes" in the souf'. As in:
What kind of coke do you want, Dr. Pepper, root beer, whatever.

When I was stationed on the US East Coast and drove back to Texas on
leave the first place I could get Dr. Pepper was at Veteran's Cafe on
Lookout Mountain outside Chattanooga. Would go in and drink a couple and
buy a six-pack for the road. DP wasn't sold all over the USA back then.

there is no period (.) after (Dr) in Dr Pepper. Coca Cola owns the
brand and they had a big whoop de doo about 20 years ago with the AMA,
who threatened to sue because of the (.), which is supposed to be only
used with the abbreviation for doctor, like in md, dds., etc.

You're right! I stand corrected! And people think that I'm fussy. Wow,
that's just amazing that a period would be SO important - legally!
Now, since Coca Cola owns the brand, why doesn't the Cheesecake
Factory serve it?

Thanks for the hint about the period (.) after the Dr. I did not know
that. While Coca-Cola owns most of the non-US rights, Cadbury Schwepes
owns the US rights. The gubmint blocked that merger.

Speaking of Dr Pepper, the people in Texas and Louisiana seem to be nuts
over it. I drank it when I was a kid, but we did not have soft drinks
very often. I really preferred 7-Up.

My children would have soft drinks if we went out on the weekend, but I
did not keep soft drinks in the house. Caffeine is mighty powerful to
give to children, not to mention the sugar.

Hah ! I Loathe Dr Pepper, in fact I use it , as one of the reasons I
am NOT a Texan.

1. I hate Dr Pepper

That's a good thing, because you are not old enough.
At least your posts sound like you're not nearly old enough for beer. When
will you be 21? In about 8 years?

Well that IS a relief! I was thinking just the other day: What on earth
did Dr Pepper do to the snarling rabble at rfc that got them set against
it? But now it's clear that I was locked in unending combat with a
logical fallacy. Thanks for setting me straight.

You don't live in Texas, obviously.

DP is #6 on the list. It sells more than Sprite.

What? No. Dr Pepper is part of the 7-Up/RC/A&W group that used to be
owned by Schweppes. It was recently spun off or sold or something.

The Coke version is Mr Pibb (I think it goes sans period as well).

FFS. There are people who think discussing PUNCTUATION in brand names is
worthwhile?

I'd suggest suicide, but I hardly think it would be worth the cost or mess

Yes! Business owners, patent and license holders, courts, and
innumerable attorneys think it's HIGHLY worthwhile.

Do you know that every time we sing "Happy Birthday to You" we should
pay a fee to the copyright holder? In fact, each time we type out the
brand or trade name of a product, we are expected to get unique spelling
and punctuations exactly correct and could be made to embellish it with
a patent or trademark symbol!
