A piadina heated in a dry pan with mozzarella and a paste of olives with hot
peppers. With black coffee.

Nice move, I had a piadina just yesterday for dinner. Heated in a teflon
coated pan, after flipping it I loaded it with thinly sliced pecorino and
then salami, no sauces or other dressings.
I love piadina.

Yep, I like piadina much better than tigelle because they are thinner.
Thinly slice cucumber, tomato, black dried olives and onion, lay on a warmed
piadina, add crumbled feta and roll it up. Greek salad you can eat with
YOUR HANDS.

I had to Google it, too, Andy. :~) Sounds like a flatbread sandwich that
you could fill with anything. I'd love to try one!

Arrrgh. It's too early to think about breakfast! White Castles? Ugh. I
guess I'll have a couple of scrambled eggs. They're on the OK list.

I'll think about waffles tomorrow. Haven't tested out Mom's vintage waffle
iron

Mine was even cheaper: one coffee (here at home). I suppose I should
disclose that my daughter and I will be trying a new-to-us diner later
this morning.

Jill,

Now just take it easy there get-well-girl. A toasted frozen waffle or two
is perfectly OK, topped with your favorite ice creams and stuff!!!

Lemon poppy-seed muffins sound great! Why is it I never think about seeds
until I can't have them?

I went wild today. Oatmeal (Quaker 1-minute oats) cooked with
raisins, then
I added butter, a little brown sugar, and walnut pieces. Washed down
with a
glass of milk.

Sausage McMuffin with egg...
Still a $buck$ at most McDonalds.

Two of those and a hot cuppa
will hold you for most of the day.

Nope. And it turns out this one was a cafe and not a diner. Very nice
veggie omelet. Probably the best I've had at such a place. I splurged
and had a fancy coffee too. I'll regret it when I can't sleep.

BTW, I have quite a few Everly brother albums....

Glad for the veggie omelet. Sorry about no jukeboxes. Glad for your Everly

A flour tortilla might be a good substitute for me, too. Don't forget a

French toast, made with Aldi's cheapest bread (cheaper than day old
bread at the nearest bakery outlet).

l, not -l,

I'll certainly agree with you, there are plenty of better foods than
Chicago's deep dish pizza.

But it's pretty good if it's pretty good.

See below:

Old Scoundrel

(AKA Dimitri)

Traditionally, Potatoes O'Brian have green Bell peppers but the appearance
of the dish can be improved with a bit of red Bell pepper or some added
chopped pimentos.

Prior to World War II, everyone had a little container on their stove where
they poured off the bacon grease. It was the prefered grease for frying.
Since then bacon and bacon fat have received more than their share of bad
press. That doesn't change the fact that bacon fat adds a lot of flavor to
foods. Try frying a little bacon to go with the potatoes and leave a little
of the bacon fat and brown bits in the pan and then fry the potatoes.

Preparation: 30 minutesTraditional Recipe
Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 large Russet potatoes
1 large yellow onion
1 large green Bell pepper
Oil for frying

Peel and dice potato. Dice green pepper and onion.
Heat large frying pan and add oil and coat pan. Add ptatoes, stir well to
coat potatoes with oil. Brown on first side.
Add onions and stir to brown additional side.
Add green peppers and turn to brown next side.
Stir and fry until potatoes are browned on all sides and vegetables are
tender.

I can't think of many places with jukeboxes. Johnny Rocket's, but
that's not the same....

My corner dive bar just replaced their wonderfully eclectic jukebox with one
of those satellite jukebox thingies...bummer. No more fighting with a
coupla people and trying to persuade the owner over what records to put in,
it used to be a Big Drama at times. Plus it's more expensive to play, the
juke was 18 songs for five bux...

"You mean he took out my PULP FICTION soundtrack and put in ZYDECO
cd...!!!??? He'd better not try that with my SINATRA cd...!!!"
