So I was just noodling around on the Internets this morning when,
apropos nothing, D says to me: "Wouldn't it be great if there was a
restaurant called the International House of Noodles?"

That idea, I believe, goes a long way towards explaining why we've
been married so long.

There are plenty of restaurants called "House of Noodles", some of which
offer a variety beyond various Asian noodles. Just the name is missing.

There used to be a restaurant around here called "Nothing But Noodles".
Their timing was unfortunate. Their grand opening came during the
Atkins craze.

If anybody tried that, they would certainly get sued
by the International House of Pancakes.

International House of Coffee
International House of Barbecue
International House of Wine and Cheese
International House of Crepes
International House of Chicken
International House of Food
.....

Our local "Yen Ching Noodle House" just closed. I ate there for the
first time a couple days before they closed. They had been there
for decades.

The brother of a friend of mine has a business
making some kind of thing for bicyclists, and
he created a logo that was the name of the company
in stretched-out letters. He was threatened with
a lawsuit by the Everlast company, which makes
various sportswear items with a logo that features
stretched out letters. They're stretched out
in a different way, and the name of his company
is nothing like "Everlast", but they threatened him
anyway. He talked with a lawyer who told him to
just ignore it. Their case was so weak they wouldn't
win and the threat was probably empty.

I'm not saying IHOP could win against the hypothetical
IHON, but they would have a much stronger case.
If there were one mom-and-pop IHON, they might not
sue, but if it were a chain or franchise they most
certainly would, and they might win. For example,
on the grounds of trademark dilution.

There is a place called "My Noodlehouse" about three minutes' walk from
my digs. They serve ramen-type noodles.

It's intriguing to imagine the menu. You could arrange it by
continents, countries, regions, or by types of flour, or by noodle
shapes, or by cooking methods, or by fresh or dried, or by soup/salad/
side dish/main dish/dessert, or .....? -aem

A menu structured according to cuisines came to mind. That would
leave room for anything from US macaroni and cheese (okay, T.
Jefferson reportedly imported that from Europe back in the day, but
it's Murrikan now) to a range of Italian pastas to German to assorted
Chinese to Thai to Vietnamese to Japanese to ??? and beyond.

Apparently there are Peruvian noodles, though I've never had them. And
a Mexican noodle soup which I've never had

We got stuck on couscous. It's pasta, but not really noodles.

Incidentally, I just found a site for something called the Noodle
Company which offers a wide, but not exhaustive variety of noodles
from assorted national cuisines. I'm not going to include the URL
because Teranews holds up my posts for a day or so when I include URLs
-- checking for abuse, apparently. Google noodle to find it. But the
site is very flash-intensive and didn't work well in Firefox for me.

You're joking, right?

Results 1 - 10 of about 18,400,000 for "noodle"

That's 18 *million* references to 'noodle' google (for those who
have trouble counting that many commas).

Couldn't you disguise the URL somehow, like www dot noodles dot com?

It's a conjcture of mine. Somehow I'm being flagged for abusing the
service -- or something. Posts of mine have taken days to appear in
rfc. And they seem to be the ones with URLs in them. Had to post the
iHam URL three times before it finally appeared. Teranews says that
anything their abuse bot flags has to be vetted by a human, therefore
the delay.

Your newsreader stamped almost the same date/time as terranews
posted it. So it doesn't seem that it delays URL posts.

I have used Teranews for years, and to attribute problems to intent is a
mistake. When the service is bad it is because somebody ****ed something up.
They don't monitor. They don't censor. And they don't respond to netcopping
pricks like Steve. Since I paid $3.95 one time to use the otherwise free
server probably seven years ago, I don't expect a whole lot from them. I
think they tend to pay more attention to the functioning of their pay
servers. Still, they are up more than they are down. You get what you pay
for.
