Not really. *If* I ever > watch an Olympic sport, it's wintertime and it's the Luge or the Ski Jump. I dunno... I don't have any Cuban interest or heritage whatsoever, but watching Alberto Juantorena and Teófilo Stevenson compete was thrilling, and I'm glad I saw it. Meldrick Taylor was ASTOUNDING to watch in the Olympics, though he never gained a foothold as a professional. Cassius Clay *did* attain great success following his Olympic victories. In wrestling, who can forget Kurt Angle winning a gold medal "with a broken freakin' neck"? World-class volleyball is always fun to watch, and seeing world-class table tennis makes me realize just how far the game has come from its staid beginnings. Speaking of games which have progressed WAY beyond their original vision, basketball at the Olympics is fun to watch. Sure, it's not the same since the pros came in, but let's face it: When the Soviet Bloc still existed, ALL its Olympic athletes were professional athletes. At least now the double standard has been lifted. So I'll try to catch some of the games, even though the next week-and-a-half will be extremely busy for me. Bob |

Blinky, You're 15 hours behind China time. 8pm PDT would put the opening ceremonies on Saturday morning if it were live. Today is the day. The Today Show said they won't give away the opening ceremonies this morning. It seems the U.S.A. viewers will probably see them at 8:08pm in each respective time zone. In the spirit of the 08/08/08 at 8:08pm China's "Lucky 8" numerology? It's probably live on a webcam somewhere. Best, Andy |
