The fear of ruining wood in a kitchen where I'll need to mop well after kids and cat, a concern that ceramic tile would be too hard on my feet and legs, but in the end one of the strongest reasons for *this* flooring Consumer Reports high recommendation. Prior to reading about it I'd never heard of this flooring name before? It isn't flimsy, soft vinyl. This stuff is a harder, thin plank almost. It really does look different from any other flooring we looked at and it has a great warranty. And the price of 3.15 (if I recall?) a square foot was reasonable. |

Which specific pattern did you choose? I'm curious ![]() homework and researched floorings too, but I don't remember coming across the Nafco name/brand. I even visited all of the carpet/flooring stores in my area, as well. Like you, I also checked with Consumer Reports. When my kitchen floor had to be replaced this past spring, I chose Mannington Adura 16" vinyl tile, "Yucatan Summer Straw" pattern (http://www.becklerscarpet.com/vinylt...88&manu_id=52). This stuff is definitely not wimpy! It's very sturdy and sounds similar to the Nafco tile you selected. One of my concerns was a portable dishwasher travelling across the floor without leaving wheel ruts, as had happened with the previous sheet vinyl floor (really cheap stuff) already in place when I purchased the house. The "Summer Straw" pattern was the only kitchen flooring (within my budget) that I liked and that complemented the decor of my kitchen. No other pattern/style appealed to me. "Wood" or bamboo would not have worked well since my cabinets are knotty pine. Sky, who intensely dislikes re-decorating -- Ultra Ultimate Kitchen Rule - Use the Timer! And I have *six* cats, plenty of cat chow pebbles get stepped on, and thrown up hair balls to wipe up several times every day. My wood floor has been down more than five years now and shows not a bit of wear. All I do is vacuum and use the Bonakemi wood floor care system... just a light misting of the special cleaner and wipe up with a micro fiber mop. Real wood floors should never see wet mopping. No other flooring is nearly as gorgeous as real wood. > a concern that ceramic tile would be too hard on my feet > and legs, Ceramic tile is hard and cold, and no matter how much you spend it never looks any prettier than a concrete driveway. > but in the end one of the strongest reasons for *this* > flooring Consumer Reports high recommendation. It really does look > different from any other flooring we looked at and it has a great > warranty. And the price of 3.15 (if I recall?) a square foot was > reasonable. There are many big name brands of vinyl floor tile, all pretty much the same grade per equal price. When I moved here the kitchen floor was vinyl tile, all dulled from wear, showed bumps and lumps from transfering the irregularities of the sub floor, the spaces between all the seams filled with schmutz from dirty mopping water, and many were lifted from mopping water soaking underneath. Of all the flooring possible for a kitchen floor vinyl tile is by far the very worst of all possible choices... vinyl tile is fine for a basement playroom but not a kitchen or bathroom floor... water will seep through the seams and you will not like the stink. If you need to stick to a budget get sheet vinyl... but I don't see the point in doing an expensive total kitchen makeover, with granite counters no less, and then skimp on the floor.... that's like getting all dolled up in your best finery, the flashy things people see rightaway, but wearing old worn out undies and not bathing first. I love my hardwood kitchen floor, it's in my half bath and laundry room too... with the new modern finishes spills don't hurt it, just wipe them up same as any floor. Every floor in my hosue is hardwood except my master bath, that's sheet vinyl because there I can be as sloppy as I like with water, that kind of flooring can stand up to flooding and it's not a high traffic area, least not with street shoes so there's no scuffing, plus it only cost like $150 and an hour to install, so in a few years it's no biggie to change if I'm bored with it. I had ceramic tile flooring in my last bathroom, no matter what the grout discolored from all the wet. I hope you still have time to change your mind. |

I had ceramic tile flooring in my last bathroom, no matter what the grout discolored from all the wet. I hope you still have time to change your mind. Why? You are only right for you. What you say about yout life with your flooring I am sure is true for you, but is opposite to the experiences of most including myself. I designed homes for thirty years and not one client ever had your experiences and wanted to change bath floors to vinyl sheeting. Many who had wood kitchen floors regretted the amount of work it took to keep them from wearing in front of the sink and stove. Never use white grout and you will miss those icky stains. |

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. . . . Scandinavian baths are all wood, floor, walls, ceiling, built like an old sailing ship.... their kitchens are all wood too. One should always have some kind of mat/rug in high traffic areas regardless what material the floor. I use cotton rag rugs in front of my sink and stove because they are easily machine washable. I like the flooring you selected, goomba ![]() reminded me of some 'grass' wallpaper my grandmother used to have in her powder room. It also goes very well with my knotty pine cabinets and it's not as easy to see the tile lines. Because looking 'online' at products and selections is a poor substitute for actually seeing the products, I visited practically every flooring/carpet store in my area to get a good 'feel' for the patterns. I even took home quite a few samples and kept them for about a week so I could get a better idea how they'd look in different locations and lighting conditions. Good luck with all your remodelling.
