Cell phones should not be used in: waiting rooms, libraries,
restaurants, classrooms, theaters of any kind . . .

Update: you can turn off cell phones. It's like unplugging a
landline.

I LOVE my cell phones. I sometimes keep both of them off for days at a time,
just because I can. *cackle*

You'll break down eventually. They are handy, especially the camera phones.
Weeks after a thread here about the purpose of a round pan with smalling,
shallow round indentations, when I said "silver dollar pancake pan!" and got
pooh-poohed by people claiming it was for some obscure something, I was in a
BB&B and saw the exact thing LABELED "SILVER DOLLAR PANCAKE PAN!" I forgot
to post it but I do still have it.

Also, last night my cat had a hilarious playing-like-a-crazed-monkey fit,
and I had my phone right there and caught video of the whole thing.

Then there is safety.

They there is when your land/cable line goes down.

I know exactly how you feel! I only got one because I was travelling a lot
and might need to be reached in case of emergency. It's just a basic phone
and I have a very basic plan. It doesn't take pictures, I can't watch
full-length movies or play games on it. It doesn't do laundry or cook
dinner for me It's just a phone. When I no longer have to worry about
elderly relatives I'll get rid of the damn thing.

Yeah, but not everyone wants (or needs) to have one.

So silly. Why disable either, simply turn off their ringers... then
you can still receive voice mail that you can retrieve later. I don't
have a cell phone, for reasons I won't go into here, but I often turn
the ringer off on my land phone so it won't wake me up during the
night or for whenever else I don't want to be interrupted... upon
awakening in the morning if there are any messages I'll see the
message light flashing.

So silly. Cell phones lose signal far, FAR more often than land lines
go down. About 90 percent of calls I receive from someone on a cell
phone they lose signal before I know why they called. I wish their
was some way to block all cell phone callers that leaves the mesaage;
This number receives land line calls only.

Rub my lamp. . . hehe

Why can't you have one... they're certainly not expensive... there are
plenty of top name brand ones for about $100, even less. You don't
need any fancy schmancy camera, most folks buy far more camera than
they know how to use. Ninty nine percent leave the digicam in Auto,
they never use any of the many bells and whistles, most never even
explore to find out what features their camera has... just point and
shoot... today's most basic cameras have larger brains than their
users.

I don't have a landline. It's much less bother... no solicitors for
instance.

I get those calls on my cell phone occasionally. I assumed it was
because I don't have a landline, and so some of the businesses I do
business with must sell their customers info

If you had any idea what you are talking about, you would know it by its
real name.

like during a massive power outage?

must have battery-operated cell towers in your neck of the woods. If I
didn't mind having a land line I never used, I would plug my old corded
phone in and use it as an emergency line.

That's just because you live in the boonies

I have had all of two calls dropped in the year I've had my cell phone
activated again.

I would engage with you, sugar, but you're beginning to get that pathetic
smell about you. I like a little sport, you know?

No. Like when the telephone lines go down or the cable is down, if you have
a digital cable down. In both cases, the electricity is just fine..

Am I saying it slowly enough for you?

I have a single land line that I had installed once when I was ****ed off at
the cable company, it was down so much. Better a dial-up connection than no
connetion at all. And landline phones (noncable) are much more reliable.

You CAN turn it off.. Mine is off most of the time....I *might*
check it once a day or so, to see if there are any messages. I don't
let it rule me....LOL

The people who call him on cell phones are either using a crap carrier
or they're in a moving car. Black holes exist in the cell phone
world, but the carriers don't want to admit how many there are....
even Verizon. Can you hear me now? Hello? Hello? Hello?
