I am trying to get my mind around how anyone could get them to work that
way. You mean holding them like a baby holds a rattle??

When eating with the fork, yes. When cutting meat, the fork handle is
literally straight up in the air... sometimes they put their thumb up
to steady it while cutting. A sledge hammer in the other hand would
be more appropriate, IMO.

I have seen people clumsily cut their food while holding their fork with
the same grip as if they're reaching to grasp the vertical refrigerator
door handle. It is awkward and they look uncouth.

That's the one.

It's not something you can ignore. When my kids were little I could
give them lessons on how to hold your knives and forks. Now I have to
bite my tongue. Too bad no one bothered to teach them the basics of
what happens when you sit at the table.

I had to attend a gathering at one of those slop holes about 10 years
ago and I was sick for days afterwards. Another problem with buffets
in rural areas is the farmers forget to clean the cow shit off their
boots before they dine.

I was in that thread. Along with the usual suspects!

For not paying attention, turn your desk around and face the back of the
classroom.

That thread was more fun than this one.

Quote:

That's why Mom always broke the spaghetti in half.

I fork-twirl into the spaghetti on the plate, then when I have enough,
I stab a piece of meatball onto the end. That's a bite!!!

Geez, that's way back when you didn't have (or need) a last name. '-)

And people wonder why I've always been...
