Goomba, Here is the First Part of what you want, the meals we had, in
conjunction with Marissa and Mauricio's Wedding. Rehearsal Dinner at Bongo's Cuban Cafe, a place on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, Florida. It was hosted by Marissa's maternal Grandfather. Marissa's mother died about six years ago. http://www.bongoscubancafe.com/miami/index_miami.html It was the first (actually second) time I ate Cuban food and it was truly a wonderful experience. The restaurant itself was chosen for its good food and the place we had for the private party was comfortable, the food was excellent and the service was perfect. There were many guests besides the Wedding Party, friends of the couple who were not invited for the Wedding and Reception, but whom the young couple wanted to invite for a special evening. Here is the Menu: When the chartered bus brought us to the Restaurant, we were welcomed with trays of drinks, red wine, white wine, Sangria, Margaritas and many kinds of Beer. Thus we could mingle and renew acquaintanceships, drink in hand, while we waited for the rest of the guest. There was also an Open Bar, for Wine, Beer and Sangria, but any request for Booze was filled, too. Here is what we had for Dinner: For Appetizers, each table had a HUGE Combination Platter with Papas Rellenas (Fried Breaded Mashed Potatoes, Stuffed with Creole Ground Beef) Mariquitas (Plantain Chips) Empanadas de Espinaca (Spinach Pies) Pinchos de Pollo (Chicken Kabobs) Tostones Rellenos de Camarones (Green Plantain Cups stuffed with Shrimp Creole) Toasted Cuban Garlic Bread The Main Course, Choice Of One POLLO AL COCO, Grilled Chicken Breast. dressed with Ginger, fresh Golden Raisin Coconut Milk and Shallots Sauce, garnished with Toasted Coconut. CHURRASCO, Cuban Style Juicy Skirt Steak, grilled to perfection with Chimmi-Churri Sauce MAHI-MAHI CARIBENO, Mahi-Mahi grilled and topped with our Homemade Tropical Fruit Salsa FOR VEGETARIANS, a platter of vegetables and such could be ordered. Nobody at our table ordered one. All Entrees were served with a traditional trio White Rice, Black Beans and Fried Sweet Plantains. DESSERT Flan de Queso, Cuban Style Cheese Custard, topped with Caramel Pudin De Pan, Bread Pudding Tres Leches, Sponge Cake topped with Meringue in a Three Milk Mix Sauce An Assortment of Cookies Soft Drinks, Iced Tea, Freshly Brewed American and Cuban Coffee. Hosted Open Beer, Wine and Sangria Bar Tomorrow I will post the Wedding Day Foods. |

In formal (and semi-formal) weddings everyone gets together at the location of the wedding and rehearses, like participants in a play. Afterwards they go somewhere and eat. Apparently in this case they chose to invite people who weren't invited to the actual wedding and reception (for whatever reasons). Jill |

The SO and I have discussed where/how we're going to get married. We're eloping to somewhere like New Caledonia/Fiji/Bora Bora and getting hitched on a white sandy beach, right on the waters edge. *Then* we'll come back and have a reception/party. Too many people want to stick their damn noses into our day and turn it into a 'stuffed shirt' event. I don't do churches. Then there's always this......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb8lAWlMWjc or...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKi6FO4jfpU&NR=1 :-) -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia If we are not meant to eat animals, why are they made of meat? |

We haven't even planned the day yet!! But, it'll all depend on what time of the year it is. Cold, and it'll be an indoor buffet/smorgesbord type thing........ warm, and it'll be 1/2 a cow on a spit, outside :-) If you're in the country, rock on in :-) -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia If we are not meant to eat animals, why are they made of meat? |

You kept excellent records. ![]() I would have chosen the Churrasco for my meal. What did you pick? I have only had chimmichurri sauce once and loved it, and skirt steak is so tasty. I also love plantain, did you? Flan is a favorite of mine, but I suspect I'd want to try the Tres Leches Cake also? I had some in San Antonio and it was quite good the first night, not so good the next. |

If it's after the fact it's not a rehearsal... it's an after birth... it's a way to extract wedding gifts out of folks who weren't good enough to spend money on to be seated at the real affair... serve a bowl of rice and beans, a pork sammiche, and a cheap sangria to embarrass folks into giving a nice gift... this is a new one, reverse schnorring! We planned the the dinner for several of the girls at the same place where the wedding party was staying. They had a very nice Restaurant & nightclub. No one had to drive and we all danced till the wee hours. Then most ended up in our suite for nightcaps. Till the wee wee hours - Thank god the wedding wasn't till late the next afternoon. Dimitri |
