He is a Groenendahl that we adopted 7 years ago when he was 5-1/2. My wife took him to the vet today for a raccoon rabies shot. He has been limping slightly for months. It started off as a sever limp but seemed to be improving and attributed to his old age and arthritis. He has lost 10 pounds in the last year, and last week I noticed a clicking sound in his hips. The vet says that it is a degenerative condition. He also detected an irregular heart beat, and said that considering his health problems, he is in remarkably good condition. He is still eating and drinking and eliminating, and he is very active. He gets a minimum of one 1 km walk every day, sometimes longer and sometimes twice a day. He is a loving and loyal dog and very obedient, but the vet confirmed today what we have known for a while, that he doesn't have much longer. |

Letting go is the hardest thing we have to do. My heart goes out to you and your family. My cat Annie made it for 17 years, and in the last year of her life, she had cancer surgery twice. It came back for the 3rd time and I was not going to have Annie go through surgery again. I knew she was circling the drain, even though the vet was ready and willing to put her through it again. My wife took our Bouvier des Flandres in when she was so crippled that she could not walk. She got to the vet's office and just couldn't go through with it and got some medication to keep her comfortable but it didn't do much good, so she ended up having to go back a few days later. The last one that I took myself was one of my Labs. He was suffering from congestive heart failure. He had been on medication for months, but it wasn't doing much good anymore. He was so swollen that he could no longer sit. We had been going to the vet at least once a week for months and he knew the routine. I walked him in without a leash and he went over and stood on the scales without being told. The girl at the counter knew what we were there for and said "This is going to be a hard one", I went in with him and held him while he got the needle. I was in tears on the way out. :-( I am really hoping that Luc drops dead of a heart attack one day on his morning walk. I always thought that was a good way for a dog to go. |

When I took my cat Mugsy, I got the vet on the phone and told him I was bringing her in and for what, then I told him Have the bill ready, or be prepared to mail it to me, because I'm not sticking around once the deed is done. This puzzled him, and I don't know why. He had the bill ready. Every time I see people standing at the counter in tears waiting for the bill to be ready, I think, I feel your pain. Last thing you need is to be standing there in misery. nancy |

I'm not a "right - winger", whatever that means (and sometimes I just like to josh blake and his "leftist" elk...or channel "Tim May", lol...) 2. I once bought a 45 of the East German national anthem in a record store in East Berlin (in the 70's). On the flip side was - you guessed it! - the _Internationale_... I have all sorts of "subversive" commie stuff from my trips behind the Iron Curtain packed away in boxes in the closet, hope "Tailgunner Joe" McCarthy doesn't come a - knockin' on my door... I even have a nice Lenin wall medalion hanging on the wall near a bookcase...it's a lovely platinum - gold color. And I was once a member of the US - GDR (East Germany) Friendship Society... ;-P -- Best Greg ===>>> coming out of the "Commie Closet"... |
