I try to keep it kind of organized with vegetables in one bin, meat in another, but as time goes by things get messy. This is when I realized I can stop buying frozen peas for some weeks to come, It's about all I have by way of frozen vegetables, bags of frozen peas. It's to be expected, I guess, since it's one of the only vegetables I don't buy fresh from farmer's markets and road stands this time of the year. I voted love fresh and frozen peas. Canning is an awful thing to do to them. nancy |

I rarely buy fresh peas because they are so expensive. It costs $2-3 for a quart basket of them and after 15 minutes of shelling you have enough peas for two people to have or or two forkfuls of them. |

There's probably no other vegetable so easy to grow as peas... and that includes snow peas and sugar peas... and no other so good as fresh picked. |

I eat a LOT of tossed salads, and I like canned peas in tossed salads, makes a nice difference in texture from the crispier ingredients, e.g. iceberg lettuce and such. I also buy canned green beans and corn to put in my tossed salads... And I adore frozen peas and use them in a myriad of things. I make a lot of stir - fry type stuff and I'll add a handful of frozen peas at the end of cooking, nice color and texture. And frozen peas will work fine in a salad, just throw on and wait a coupla minutes to thaw... IMNSHO peas are a food group, I like them canned, frozen, fresh, in "pod" form...pea shoots are a treat too if you can find them. Cheap, easy, and tasty...almost as good as sex... :-) -- Best Greg |

My parents liked peas. My oldest brother likes them. My other two brothers hate them. I can't figure that out. I don't know what there is to hate about peas. |

Well, they all them Early Peas, but I've always called 'em baby ;-) kimberly |

Well, they all them Early Peas, > but I've always called 'em baby ;-) I had a friend in high school who loved those. I guess I can put them in a separate 'they're not bad' category. But I think canning is harsh for most vegetables, and peas are the most delicate ones I can think of. Canned corn, okay. Tomatoes, sure. Beans. Haven't had them in years, but I even have a thing for those canned potatoes. Peas, too mushy canned. Frozen is the way for me. Fresh is nice, but as Dave said, geez you have to peel a ton of them to get enough. And I only see them in the spring. nancy |

As in not mushy, like canned peas? ;-) > I love > the Le Sueur canned baby peas. I still don't care for canned peas (or limas) as they get a horrible mushy texture when canned. As cold-packs for any sort of injury. Any other use is, particularly as an edible dish, is not an option in my home! <G> So the 'do not eat' warning is not required - it's a given! ![]() Sky, PEAs member! -- Ultra Ultimate Kitchen Rule - Use the Timer!
