Heh, I'm not as nice as some people think I am, either... There, I said

It's too late at night for me to read all 4 messages in this thread
-- my AMish cookies are baking.

But, If Barb could get a blue ribbon for cooking dirt, then there is
hope for the rest of us.

Pickles. Wasn't that Jerry's wife on the DVD show?

Brian is a great guy and missed by me. I've met him several times,
maybe more than anyone currently participating here in rfc. But I was
so new here at that time, I can't be sure. The person I really
remember is tj the small who goes by another name these days and
rarely posts due to mommyhood and work. I met evergene and a few
other rfc legends, but they aren't here to hear me sniffle. The
ex-poster I'd love to learn whatever-happened-to is Blacksun21. She
was a fabulous cook and had friends who loved cooking too, but she
always told me she absolutely *would not* go into catering or any
other food profession. I can't count how many rfc gatherings she had
at her place... which was a studio apt! Back in the days of rfc
cook-ins, I hosted 3 myself. Unfortunately those days of rfc communal
comradery are over. I know one or two current posters have hosted rfc
parties in the past few years, but they were "private". The parties
I'm talking about were not.

When I hosted cook-ins, they were open to all rfc posters. My husband
was (and still is) dubious about this "newsgroup cooking thing", but
he was *always* impressed by the participant's intelligence and
ability to articulate their points of view in a comprehensive (and
non-combative) manor. In his words, they were "Interesting." He
wasn't being snide or derogatory, he actually liked them! <Note to
ChrisD... Mimi Hiller was one he really liked.>

I want to do another cook-in someday... it just doesn't seem to be the
"time" for that sort of thing though. It's hard enough to find people
willing to do a virtual cook-in. Gawd forbid you would show up in
person. What an inconvenience to actually *talk* to people in real
life!

if there's any interest, I would be willing host another one. I
know we have several regulars (and lurkers) here who are in or in the
immediate vicinity of the City. IMO: not a problem to meet at a
restaurant, if that's the general consensus.

sf
throwing down the gauntlet (yeah, that means *you*, Brian)... even if
it's one to one. I want to see you again and catch up, it's been too
many years! Email me privately (my return works) if you have the
slightest of interests. Anyone else who might be interested about a
get together in the City, email me too, I'm open to a good
proposition. heh!

It's really hard to understand why "Chatty" is so surprised that so many
people recoil from her.

That's my BARB! Gets ribbons without even trying. LOL!
Sooner or later I'll get brave and enter something into the Idaho
State Fair.
Thought I would drop in and say hi! It's been busy for me and I have
just a really short time to stop in. Then it's off and running again.

Hmmm. That was a *really* weak attempt at an insulting post from you
cybercat. Not a swear word to be seen, no exclamation points, and no
shouting. You could have at least slipped a spelling mistake in there -
nothing upsets me quite like a good spelling mistake. Tsk. What gives?

OMG, it has just dawned on me - you're taking your meds again. Please
don't. I like it better when you really rant and rave and call me nice
colorful names. Nothing like a good 'cat-fight', to get the day
started, 'eh? (Geddit, cat-fight?)

<Chatty whispers to cyber>

Now please go and throw all those meds in the trash like a good girl and
let's get back to business, shall we?

As I hear it Jen is fine and doing well.

We would have a cook-in here if anyone is interested. Rich will probably
kill me for saying it but I know that he misses then too!

Well, you should've read the one at the top, you dipstick. The opening
sentence.

NOT a blue ribbon. A pink ribbon for fourth place. They both start
with Fs, but mine is fourth, not first. I wanted *a* ribbon. I got
one. Fourth. Good enough. For now. '-)

That's a deal!! We can call it whatever we want: a housewarming
party, or a retirement party, or just a plain ol' cook-in.

I am busy saving money, so hoping to get back up that way by this time
next year...maybe sooner. For good.

We'll be happy when you finally plan some roots, Chris. This "down"
housing market is a good time for you to buy. I'm sure you can meet
all the "new" expectations (which are more like they were when I
bought my home in '74).
