You have me confused with someone like Sqwertz!

That's the sort of thing (along with forging) that he'd do!

I have!?

Am I the one cross-posting *lots* of forgeries to alt.usenet.kooks,
alt.religion.kibology, and alt.flame.vampire.flonk.flonk.flonk?

No! It's your "friends" Steve (Sqwertz) and his cohorts that are doing
that.

Didn't I stop, like, 48 hours ago when I realized the mistake? But
you're still going off like the Energizer Bunny (do they have an
Energizer Bunny in the UK? Or is it a lamb or mutton - or something
else cute, furry and edible?)

I mean, decent people can tell my forgeries, right?

Dude, move on with your life.

Shhhh. Don't anybody tell him where I work. All these people
emailing him... I'm kinda paranoid about what they're telling him
about me.

ObFood: Stouffers Sweedish Meatballs for dinner. I've been sick
with a bad cold for the last 4-5 days and these didn't have much
taste either.

The same question popped into my mind, too. But then I realized it
was Corey Richardsn posting that.

Maybe we can get Corey to post a picture of a pizza (or something)
and sell T-Shirts and g-strings!

For some, this thread included, filter on [OT] in the Subject header.
Even Thunderbird can do that. You're reading it by choice.

Yes I did. That doesn't mean I approve of it. I think it has become far
too prevalent for a cooking group.

Again: so filter it.

When friends get together, discussion is going to range. This isn't
rec.cooking.corporate-tech-support-only.

Thread drift is entirely fine... starting often stupid off topic threads
(IMO) is not. And they're not the same thing either.

The "OT" designation, where present, allows you to filter them, even with
TB.

Might be smarter to request that topical posts be named On Topic, then
set filters accordingly. Wouldn't be much reading.

Maybe you can enlighten me, too? WHY do people post feel a need to clog
up a cooking/food group by posting jokes, current events, political or
religious topics, yada yada yada, in the first place? Do they not have
real people in their lives to discuss these issues with? Or do they
think others haven't read the news also? Why not take that stuff to a
more appropriate group? Or send it via email to those of the same ilk.
I truly believe the preponderance of initiated off topic threads (versus
thread drift) has chased away too many serious posters and left us with
a glut of sad, lonely people who use RFC for their entire social life.
What makes deliberate off topic posts any different from spam then?

Well I don't know about you Goomba...but the folk here at rfc have become
almost friends. And you share stuff with friends. Wether it be news
events, jokes, personal news whatever. Most of the stuff here mark OT is
stuff I'd hear while sitting around a kitchen table or coffee/break room
table. I came here originally to learn and share cooking ideas, tips and
recipies...I stay because of the personalities.

This is true. TB's filtering leaves a lot to be desired, but it can
indeed do that much.

Well, maybe somebody is holding a gun to goomba's head and saying, "Read
the OT posts or ELSE!"
