Actual post to Hints To Heloise:

----

ICE CUBE WATER

Dear Heolise: I was making some pie dough that called for ice water, and I
didn't have any. I thought of a great hint.

I took several ice cubes from the freezer, put them into my measuring cup
and used my blow-dryer to melt them. It was instant ice-cold water.

Jinkies!

Boy, I bet they'd love that tip over at Cooking Illustrated.

They print the lamest hints. Sometimes I can't get all my gravy
on my fork so I use a dinner roll. See illustration. I know, lame
made-up example. Good for a laugh sometimes, anyway.

If I subscribed, I'd send in one:

Always drink from the lip of the glass closest to your mouth.

LOL. Some things printed are as much of a joke at TV commercials.
Today I heard one from an ambulance chaser that said: "if you or a
loved one has died from bla bla bla you might have a claim." Call
xxx-xxx-xxxx. I thought I heard it wrong but it came on again.

some of the tips are goofy, but i still read her every day. it's kind of a
window on a demented *zeitgeist*, like reading 'family circle' in the comic
section.

besides, it became almost-hip when heloise's daughter took over.

your pal,
blake

At least I give the writer credit for ostensibly making pie dough -
something I have never mastered. Guess I forgo use my blow-dryer...

That almost sounds like a premise for a new hit TV series... ;-)
