Default Octopus in the CrockPot?

Has anyone tried cooking an octopus in a slowcooker, or crockpot? It
seems to me like it would work, but I can't seem to find any recipe in
books or web sites.

Interesting! No I have not and I use Octopus all the time and am a very
frequent crockpot user. Just never occured to me.

Many recipes simmer an octopus for 50 mins or so. I'd hazard a guess that
if you make the rest of the stuff up and cook it as needed til almost done,
then shift to 'High' and add the octopus for about 1 hour, you'd be dead on
target for it?

I've not tried a cooker/crock pot, but I have slow cooked it in a cast
iron pot.

Worked out well too!

Seems like it would work. Simmered octopus usually takes a little more
or less than an hour so maybe all day on low or a couple hours on high.

You could use any of the common cooking methods such as cook with some
celery/onion/carrot/lemon or maybe in soy sauce/sugar/broth which would
give you a dish commonly found as street food in Japan.

The OP created an image in my mind of a live octopus squirming about in a
crockpot, going, "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow...."

Octopi are pretty crafty and dexterous as cephalopods go, it might open the
lid of the slow cooker and crawl out...

Actually, there are some clips on youtube of octo's being cooked alive,
and even eaten alive. A bit too much for me.

They were eaten.

Is this where I give in to the temptation to be pedantic, and explain
that "octopus" is from Greek roots, not Latin, and that the plural is
octopoda?

Nah, I guess not...

Octopus snuff films? Will wonders never cease!
We live in a Golden Age!

Can I earn a Youtube award by tasering a lobster
to insensibility, then breaking it up and
eating it alive? (With wasabi and garlic butter
on the side, of course.) When did the incentives
in society invert? When did mayhem become laudable?

Feh, from what do they know?
"Ask Oxford" offers this:
Although it is often supposed that octopi is the 'correct' plural of
octopus, and it has been in use for longer than the usual Anglicized
plural octopuses, it in fact originates as an error. Octopus is not a
simple Latin word of the second declension, but a Latinized form of the
Greek word oktopous, and its 'correct' plural would logically be octopodes.

And there's a good reason for that.

Octopus will not get tender by slow cooking without the use of
chemicals. It'll have the texture of rubber and no taste.

Why do CrackPots insist on attempting to adapt foods to CrockPots?

The best way to cook octopus is by blanching and marinating with
citrus acids, oil and herbs. Beating the shit out of larger
octopuses beforehand helps.
