There isn't that much, based on the fact that free samples are fat-free! Caviar is good, cabbage, cooked or uncooked is too! There are a number of Japanese things that I will not eat again willingly, like barbequed eel, natto and escolar. Because of its oil content, escolar produces the runs in a large number of people. It is banned in Japan now but, strangely enough, not in the US. There are a number of things that I'd have to be very hungry to eat like oatmeal porridge, tripe or cooked turnip but De Gustibus always applies. -- James Silverton Potomac, Maryland Email, with obvious alterations: not.jim.silverton.at.verizon.not |

It's gotten to the point that whenever Bob and I go out, if there is calamari on the menu, we have to try it. The best I've ever had was at Perry's Steakhouse in Dallas, TX. Strange to be on the Left Coast and I haven't found calamari as good as Perry's. The entree that night was Prime Filet Steak Oscar and it was divine! Come to think of it, that was probably one of the best steaks I have ever had. It was a huge cut of meat and it couldn't be finished in one sitting. The sauce was extremely rich as well. We had one of the curtained, private dining booths. This "reviewer" gives Perry's two thumbs up! http://www.perrys-dallas.com/ So, whenever we have calamari it's always compared to Perry's standards. --Lin |
