Most favorite pizza?

I'd try Papa John's but they're miles out of the way.

Had a Caesar's "Pizza Pizza" in town for a couple years, ten years ago or
more. Never tried them. They've been gone for ages. I think they went out
of business.

There's a Pizzeria Uno (Chicago deep dish style) up the road but since you
can't make a correct Philly cheesesteak in Chicago, the same probably holds
true for a deep dish pizza in Philly.

Best around town here would be... uhm... Maybe Pinocchio's.

Bertucci's, which is of course a chain and not local, used to have a white
pizza called the Nolio that was made with caramelized onions, prosciutto,
and a lemon parmesan cream sauce. It was fabulous.

In the Portland, Maine area, I would suggest Ricetta's (South Portland and
Falmouth), an Italian-style--not Greek--pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven.

I remember a white pizza from nephew's wedding. It was garlic and oil'd,
meatless or something or other. Never tried it. The bride worked at
Dominos.

The nice thing, we would plan a picnic at the Local Central Park Free
Concert and have the Pizza delivered to the parking lot as a specified
time..It worked very well.

Pizza is so universal and so very flexible, and covers such a myriad of
forms I don't think anyone can really have a favorite. It depends on the
mood and what you like at the moment.

Well, just to let you know...you haven't missed anything... (When I lived in
TX, there were fast food/pizza chain locations *everywhere*. Seems like you
almost have to go out of your way here in the northeast to find fast
food--not that that's a BAD thing or anything. Just an observation.)

Yeah, well, it's a chain, just like all the rest. The last time I tried
their pizza was back in the early '90's in Houston, when hubby (then
boyfriend) and I stopped in for a bite before heading to a New Year's Eve
party. Their dough was so heavy, it stayed like a lump in my stomach for
days afterward! Never again.

Our current fave around here is Solana (http://www.solanapizza.net/). It's
the best NY-style pizza we've found in this area. Their subs (including
cheesesteaks) are pretty good, too. There are a lot of pizza places here,
while not as good as Solana, are OK in a pinch (we have coupons for many of
them).

In the Houston area, our favorite chain was Brothers Pizza. It's the real
deal, too.

I heard Caesar's is still in business somewhere, but I don't recall
where. There used to be a Caesar's around the corner from where I used
to live years ago. They had competitive prices, but their pizza was
always cooked too much.

I prefer local pizza places rather then chain places. Just tonight, a
collogue and I put in a 12 hour day at work, so we sent out for pizza
from a place in Philadelphia called Jake's, which is on the corner of
Race and Broad Streets. That pizza was very good.

Probably my favorite pizza in the Philly area is Fiesta Pizza, which is
a local three store chain in Philadelphia's suburbs. Their pizza is
superb.

I like any pizza.
Add yeast to the water and stir until dissolved. Add sugar, oil, flour, and salt. Set mixing bowl filled with dough in warm water for 5 minutes to rise. Pat dough out on a well-greased pizza pan or cookie sheet.
Layer toppings on dough in order listed. Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.

Here in Greenville, SC, the best Pizza is a small chain called
Barley's; they are probably better known for their vast beer selection
and live bands, but they have restaurants in Asheville NC, Spindale
NC, and Knoxville TN. Their pizza is terrific, and their calzones are
the best I've ever had. What I like best about their pizza is the
selection of toppings, which includes Andouille Sausage, which I've
never seen on another pizza topping menu. Unfortunately, they do not
deliver. I think my dream Barley's pizza would be topped with
Andouille Sausage, jalapeno, roasted red pepper, mushroom and diced
roma tomatoes.

I was born on Taylor St in Chicago, back in '54.
We had 4 pizzerias, and four Italian Bakeries in da hood the '60's.

Don't know how Chicago got famous for deep dish, as when I was a kid,
nobody made it. (Except maybe Pizzeria Uno, which my first trip was in
'73)

It's OK I suppose, but to me, it's an upside down Pizza.

I'm now in Southern New Mexico (Which is a ******** for good Pizza), and
there's a Uno in Las Cruces,NM. Not bad, but not like I remember. I
make better.

Yes, we just got a Little Ceasars in town a few months ago (Alamogordo),
and for $5 for a large pepperoni, it is edible, and I suppose better
than spending $6+ for a DiGiorno garbage "frozen" Pizza.

Pizza is easy to make, but IMO, the hardest thing is the dough. Even
though the dough is really easy to make, making a good dough, that is
consistent takes a bit of practice is all.

The best dough should be made a day ahead, and slow risen in the fridge,
but really, who wants to do that?

From Chicago, Armand's, in Elmwood Park "used" to be good I hear for
thin crust. I don't know, haven't been there in 7 years, and have heard
they took a really big "dive". Home Run Inn was good when we were
kids, and it was just a little Tavern, and only one location.
They're still not bad, even with an oven that can hold 40 Pizzas. Best
frozen Pizza IMO from the stupidmarkets in the Chicagoland Area

Deep Dish in Chicago, Lou Malnati's used to be really good, but again,
haven't had one in 6 years. Easy to duplicate the recipe, I have it.

Too many Pizzerias cut too many corners, using the cheapest crap they
can buy, to maximize profit. A good Pizzeria I imagine is getting very
hard to find in this day, and age.

As I said, make it from scratch, this way you know what you're eating.
Even a box Chef Boy Ar Dee that "you make" is better than some of the
crap they sell you at these little ******** Pizza Joints nowadays, which
is truly a rip off. Mark
