If I have the money to drive or fly there! I no longer live in
California. :-(

I was born there, but now reside in Texas.

Dimitri,

You're welcome!

I might add, if it's of any importance, it's only been a mere 33 years
since I dined there last.

Don't mention ya know me, they might charge you double! <VBG>

Best,

Andy

Yes, the Cheese Board is directly across the street from Chez Panisse.

Wow, I wish I still lived there, Dimitri. Rich and I would have shown you
around. There are tons of great places to eat. One that I recommend (make
reservations) is Boulevard. It is pricey but well worth the dough. Boudine
bakery is ok. It isn't the best by any means. Depending on where you want
to go, BART will get you around but I wouldn't rely on cable cars.

Have a great trip!

My favorite restaurant in town is La Ciccia. Utterly authentic Sardinian
food (unlike places like, e.g., Delfina, which "Cal" it up) and the absolute
warmest hostess you'll find anywhere (and, in true Italian fashion, her
husband is the chef). It's a haul from Union Square, but the J-line will
take you to its doorstep (Church and 30th St.).

As for things to do, the Academy of Sciences just re-opened in Golden Gate
Park, and it's getting rave reviews. I'd combine that with a trip to Zazie
for breakfast. Zazie has the utterly addictive "oatmeal brulee" -- oatmeal
topped with a thin layer of creme brulee served with caramelized bananas.
Note that they only have that on weekdays.

The J line is very easy for Dimitri to take because it runs along
Market. Thanks for the restaurant tip. I think I'll gather some
friends and go there.

My daughter went there last week. It was a three hour wait in line.
I'll pass on that, thank you. Maybe by late October the lines will have
lessened.

Well, it *was* the first weekend. Was she in line on Free Day? I
don't know why they didn't do it like the DeYoung opening. That was
absolutely fantastic.

Heh, maybe by late October it'll be a bit warmer, too.

BART gets you from the Embarcadaro[walking distance to the wharf], downtown,
to the civic center[near the semi-new spectacular Asian Art Museum], and
into the mission.

Alfred's Steakhouse http://www.alfredssteakhouse.com/
Harris http://www.harrisrestaurant.com/
Buena Vista for Irish Coffee and they have pretty good breakfast food too
Ferry Building, there is a great farmer's market on Saturdays with all
kinds of food, not just produce. Inside the building is Acme Bread,
Cowgirl Creamery and Frog Hollow Farms plus many other places already
mentioned.
In Chinatown you can visit the fortune cookie factory.

Have a great time!
