Default Gilligan's Steamer & Raw Bar in Beaufort, SC

A condensed review of Gilligan's Steamer & Raw Bar as related to me by my
brother, who dined there last night with an old school buddy. Two words:
Don't bother!

This appears to be another "local chain" in South Carolina. There has been
some discussion here of how restaurant soups are way too salty. He's cut
way back on salt so I was surprised to hear him say the she-crab soup was so
bland it needed a lot of salt!

For his entree he ordered crab stuffed flounder (a very yummy thing when
made correctly!). It was topped with some sort of cream sauce. He said the
sauce was bland, like a white sauce with absolutely no seasoning added. The
flounder itself was bland, too, as if no effort to season it had been made.
The crab stuffing was bland. Oh come on!

The side of green beans were those flat Italian beans right out of an
industrial-sized can. And even those were bland! LOL Normally he'd have
muddled through but for $19? Nope. He sent it back and ordered grilled
tilapia instead. It was mushy. Tilapia is, of course, flash-frozen and
shipped here. Based on his description of the texture I'd say it had been
thawed and then *refrozen.* No thanks.

If you ever get to Beaufort, SC, don't bother with Gilligan's Steamer & Raw
Bar. Not worth the time and effort.

You like pizza, though, right? <G> My brother is picking up a couple pies
baked in a wood-fired oven (should be very soon now) from a local place
called The Upper Crust. They even sell their dough so you can bake your own
at home. Pretty darned good stuff, and I don't go out of my way to get (or
make) pizza.
