SSDI payments are computed exactly the same as SS, an amonunt based on previous taxable earnings... and you get the same pct increase each year... when you reach 65 the SSDI automatically converts to SS. If $108.50 is all Kili gets for SSDI it's because she earned very little and/or worked very little, the amount received is also based on time worked. Most people who worked regularly receive more than ten times that amount plus medicare. Most singles who were smart enough to pay off the mortgage on their abode while still working can live well on the typical retirees SS check, naturally they can live a lot better if they were wise enough to sock some away on their own and not just suck entirely off the gubermint, and support a parasite. |

Unfortunately, he always assumes that his circumstances are the same as others. I just looked at my SS statement. It stated that my SSDI would be US$1820 a month. I have no mortgage, no car payments and Prop 13 property taxes. My children are all grown, although we've promised to help with college for our youngest should she choose to finish her degree. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

SSDI is based upon previous earning, yes *and* no; Sheldon isn't entirely correct there. Part of my SSDI problem is that my ex-husband and I owned a screenprinting business for 10 years and I wasn't paid a dime; it was a labor of love so-to-speak - pfllllpf, hrumpf. When the piece of crap ex-husband scrapped me to the gutter, I had no income, no vehicle, no means to support myself and I managed with nothing. I started my own company from there. The SSDI department is also basing my disability payments on how much my husband makes in a month. At the end of the month, I have to scan in every check he gets and turn it into my disability case file worker. The more he makes, the less I get. That's why I was only receiving $11.50 for a long time. Times are tougher, work is scarce, so they've upped my ante to $108.50. If my husband and I were to get a divorce, I would most likely receive close to $1000 a month - still not enough to live on, in my opinion. I've worked since I was 15 years old. I've worked 3 jobs at a time sometimes. In college, I went to school full-time and worked 2 full-time jobs to pay for it. Now, I need a little help because I've had a bit of bad luck with the big "C" before the age of 40 and have had extremely extensive surgery, as most of you know. So, as to not paying into my SSDI? I've been a bartender, a cocktail waitress, a maid, a fitting room attendant, a personal trainer, a manager of 3 corporate office fitness centers, a painter, a housekeeper, a screenprinter, a graphic designer, a bookkeeper, a hostess, an IT specialist, and a computer repair person. I'm 40, Sheldon. Have I had enough jobs for you? kili |

As a single with no kids you can live well on a grand a month, especially in Fl, so long as you don't feed/support that parasite. And nothing is preventing you from getting some sort of job off the books... my tenant earns less than $1,000 a month as a teacher's aide and her regular job ceases during summer but does all sorts of odd jobs for cash after work and weekends... all summer she tended a farm stand, not very physical selling veggies and running a cash register... on weekends she made up hanging baskets and did flower arrangements... and she has two kids, one is still in high school... they live with their father but still she has some obligations... and she also has a dog and a rabbit. Anyone who wants to work can, but I can certainly understand how there is no impetus when you're obligated to a leech. |
