In my very early years as a single mother, I was the big purple
Mother's Cookie monster in a huge suit in the middle of the grocery
store. I tried not to scare the kids but sometimes it didn't work out
that way. First day I wore shorts and a tee shirt and was HOT in the
suit, the next day I decided that I would only wear my underware,
mistake, mistake mistake... I couldn't take off the darn thing to
cool off in the break room...

Wow. Bummer. I taught a three day computer seminar and one of the
students was the CFO of Mothers Cookies. He always got special

Guess he wasn't that good a CFO

A little more to the story.

Mother's cookie company closes amid bankruptcy
October 10, 2008

OAKLAND, Calif.-Mother's Cookies has closed its doors for good.

Its Connecticut-based parent company filed for bankruptcy protection this
week. Workers at its baking and distribution plants in Ohio and Canada were
informed that operations would cease immediately.

Mother's operated in Oakland for 92 years, but left the city in 2006 after
it came under new ownership. Since then, cookies bearing the Mother's brand
were baked by Archway & Mother's Cake and Cookie Co. of Battle Creek, Mich.
Its parent company -- the private equity firm Catterton Partners of
Greenwich, Conn. -- says rising fuel and ingredient prices contributed to
the bankruptcy.

I'd think that on the whole, "nice" executives finish last.

I am sorry about that, I hate when things disappear that way.
It's just strange that everyone seems to know all about them
except me, can't imagine how I'd have missed them.

I have to assume that. Were they available when you lived
in NYC? Not that there's much you couldn't find there if you
wanted it.

I honestly don't remember, as that was 40 years ago. I spent most of my
life in Cleveland and they were available there.

I've never seen them or heard of them either. Even after clicking on
the link the logo still didn't ring a bell. Like has been stated,
they probably weren't in my area.

In general, Mother's cookies were usually sold at a lower price point than
the current big names such as those you mentioned. Perhaps they were just
overlooked?

Me either! Now if he'd posted Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies wouldn't be

I was just in Fry's and Basha's (local) this morning and looked at the
Mother's cookies. Both stores still have all varieties on the shelf.
Basha's had them priced at their regular price of $3.00/pkg. and Basha's
had them on special for $2.00/pkg. I wonder how long the overall inventory
will last? :-(

Folks have mentioned many of the individual varieties. They also have an
assorted package of practically all the varieties they make.

For Halloween, the usual pink and white iced elephants are now dark and
light orange iced.

You've never had or even seen an Iced Circus Animal?

I'm going to have to see if they still have bags of these on the

Nope. I can't really justify spending 22 bucks to try them,
unfortunately.

I obviously wasn't suggesting you buy anything. I was just using
the picture for reference.

I'll try to remember to give you the menu without prices next time.

(sigh) Sorry I said more than Nope so you wouldn't have to
read more into what I said than was there. I know you weren't
suggesting I buy them.

Anybody who's ever had these knows that you shouldn't buy more than
1 bag at a time anyway. It's not so much that they're addicting,
but that they're extreme junk food.

OTOH, they probably have a shelf life of a decade or so.

You already got me hooked on the dulce le leche Hoken Boken
ice cream, wasn't that enough?

Not quite the same as dunking a circus animal cookie in a cold glass
of milk, but this is still pretty cool:
