If you've never had asparagus pee you know it smells like skunk and it has a long lasting smell even after flushing. As Dan pointed out, some people are very insensitive to the smell of methyl mercaptan, and don't smell it in their or another's urine. I also seem to recall that the mercaptan is a metabolic byproduct of digestion, and that some people don't have the enzyme that creates it. And further, that those same people don't smell it (much, if at all.) |

And, oral sex is not a "get out of jail free" card, as far as STDs go. I insisted that my daughter receive the HPV vaccine, Gardasil. It entailed a three-shot series of IM injections that are obviously painful, even in non-wimpy girls. In Missouri, the shots are available at no cost from Planned Parenthood to girls whose health insurance does not cover it. Outside this program you're looking at $175.00 per shot - $525 for the series. Currently, only female teenagers are eligible. However, this morning I read that the HPV virus also predisposes both males and females to tongue and throat cancers. http://www.physorg.com/news143133664.html My daughter was literally gleeful at the thought that her younger brother might need to receive the same series of innoculations. |

Animal, vegetable or mineral, gi's a clue! > > Sub-human. > > The dregs of civilized society. Of course, I'm not going to try to justify what the terrorists have done. But let's go back a few hundred years, when what is now the US decided that they no longer wanted to be a colony of England. England sent over mercenaries, as they were busy fighting on other fronts. The mercenaries wore bright red uniforms, an easy target. They stood in neat rows and fired on command. It was pretty easy to hide behind a tree when it was time to be fired upon. Then, while the mercenaries reloaded, all at once, with no method of defense, it was easy to pick them off at will. I'm sure the mercenaries considered the colonists to be terrorists. They refused to fight according to the usual rules of combat. They refused to wear uniforms. I'm sure there were lots of young boys out hunting squirrels for dinner who were killed by the mercenaries. That didn't create any good feelings towards England. OK, now let's try Vietnam. Now *we* were the troops, in uniform, fighting in another country against the inhabitants of that country. A US soldier could buy some food from a villager, then turn his back only to get a knife in the back. It was difficult to tell friend from foe. We were supporting a corrupt dictator, so there was a good chance that many of the people in South Vietnam weren't very supportive of our attempt to "fight communism". In particular, there was the village of My Lai. US troops entered the village, and lined all of the inhabitants up. They were all unarmed. The US troops then shot all of them, men, women and children. Every single one. Then they burned down the whole village. When asked why they did that, the reply was that they had to destroy it in order to save it. Is that terrorism or what? Perhaps the inhabitants of My Lai were feeding the Viet Cong. I guess after that, villages would be less willing (or more secretive) to feed or provide supplies to the Viet Cong. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

I substitute teach in my kids' (public) school district. No info on the Gardasil vaccine was provided and when I spoke to the school nurses at my kids' schools they behaved as if I'd given them a link to a kiddie porn web site. OTOH, when my husband mentioned the free vaccine to a fellow tool and tie maker at work (in the context of bad reaction to painful shots), she nearly fainted because she'd paid full price to immunize her daughters. Morals aside, I recommend universal vaccination of teen and pre-teen females. No matter what your feelings on premarital sex might be, your daughter may still be subjected to physical or mental coercement. And if the vaccine were currently available to adolescent males, my son would be in line and baring his shoulder for the shot to protect himself against throat and mouth cancers, and to protect his partners against the above, plus cervical cancers. |
