Maybe my last visit of the season to the Asian family at the farmers'
market. Got some things that I recognized as Thai eggplant - the small round green ones. Some other things - looked sort of like firm, green plum tomatoes. The son who spoke English didn't know what they are. Translated from dad - bitter eggplant. For a buck or two for a basketful, I'll figure it out. Don't think either of them are completley ripe. Got the regular round ones up for dinner tonight - cooked with coconut milk, store-bought green curry paste (May Ploy brand. Odd packaging - plastic bag within a plastic tub. My first time, but I think I'm going to like this stuff) and the usual suspects, plus green beans. Going over rice. I'll see how they ripen off the vine. Pickles always an option. In the blur of google results I thought I saw salsa. I can see unripe thai bitter eggplant as tomatillo-ish. b |
