Default Ping: Goomba- Chocolate Liquor Recipe

My mom gave me this- it comes from a photocopy from Food & Wine, Dec
2005

Chocolate & Whiskey Liqueur
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
1 vanilla bean, split, seeds scraped
4 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped finely
1- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup half and half
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup Irish Whiskey
In a saucepan, combine the corn syrup, water , and vanilla seeds and
bring to a boil. Add the chocolate and whisk over low heat until
melted. Transfer to a blender & let cool for 5 min. Add the condensed
milk, .5 & .5, and cream and blend. Pour the mixture into a bowl and
stir in the whiskey. Blend the mix in small batches for 30 sec. Pour
into bottles and refridgerate overnight- keeps up to 2 weeks in
fridge(yeah, right)!!
My notes: I've used chocolate chips and vanilla extract with success.
Of course, some really good chocolate is best...Also, you can use
vodka for a more neutral flavor, but we like Ezra. The mixing
directions are kinda stupid, too- I just whisk it all together and
it's fine. This is a fave for the holidays, and if you can keep it
around, it makes nice gifts, too. Enjoy!

Thanks! This reminds me of the Mozart liquor we used to see in Germany.
What a nice gift this will make

I thought I'd jump in here and share this recipe I came across today
and thought of you.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format

Bee-Sting Liqueur

beverage alcohol

2 cups honey
1 cup Water
5 whole cloves
2 teaspoons chopped crystallized ginger
5 peppercorns
2 sticks Cinnamon
8 whole allspice berries
1 1-inch piece vanilla bean
5 whole cardamom seeds; crushed
10 whole coriander seeds; bruised
1 strip fresh lemon peel
2 strips fresh orange peel
2 1/2 cups (approx) pure grain alcohol; 190 proof

Combine the honey, water, spices, and lemon and orange peels in a
saucepan and simmer 30 minutes.
Strain the mixture and measure it. Add an equal amount of grain
alcohol.
Blend and bottle and store for a month or longer before using.

Notes: Craig Claiborne's favorites from NYT

Yield: 5 cups

** Exported from Now You're Cooking! v5.84 **

All I need is the grain alcohol and I'm on my way.

And I do appreciate it! It does sounds interesting, but I'm no honey
fan, sadly.
Have you ever made it?

Not yet. I just got the cookbook Monday, and was reading it when I saw
this and thought of you. I will be making it next week though.

Wow, I'm not a honey person either, but this sounds really nice-
perfect for sipping in front of a nice fire. Don't think we can get
everclear here in WA, but I'll bet vodka would work- maybe just use
more...Thank you for posting this!

You are more than welcome. I was thinking of using vodka also. I don't
think we'd need to use more though, I'd be afraid of diluting the
flavors.
