I seem to remember some talk about White Castle here before, but cannot remember if the general consensus was that they're good, bad or ugly. Do you know? (Not a brand I've seen here). I am not fond of the frozen ones, but I used to live in an area where their fast food stores were common. They are unique in the world of hamburgers and liking or disliking them is very subjective. When you have a taste for a White Castle, nothing else will do. ![]() They are *very* thin meat patties that are steam-grilled on top of a bit of chopped onion. Choice of condiments are mustard, pickle, tomato catsup. They can also be had with cheese. They are quite small…4-5 make a meal. http://www.whitecastle.com -- Wayne Boatwright (correct the spelling of "geemail" to reply) ******************************************* Date: Tuesday, 11(XI)/04(IV)/08(MMVIII) ******************************************* Today is: U.S. Election Day Countdown till Veteran's Day 6dys 18hrs 29mins ******************************************* Crime wouldn't pay if the government |

They did the surgery rather late last night (which struck me as odd). They did a spinal thing to as if she was having a baby to block her pain. What's that called? She's in ICU now and they said she's asleep. Her blood pressure was high but they're treating that and she's getting pain medication. I'll be going over to see her in a couple of hours. Jill |

Do you know? (Not a brand I've seen here). Oh, they're pretty bad. It's a northern US chain of "burger joints" that somehow managed to get their stuff packaged and sold as frozen. Tiny hamburgers with minced onions on them. I guess that's their claim to fame. Funny though, because Persia actually stole a REAL cheeseburger from me once when I'd grilled some outside. I stepped away for 30 seconds to grab a napkin, came back... I had a bun and no burger. Persia, you wench! Good thing I'd grilled four of them. LOL Jill |

Yes! An epidural! I couldn't think of the term. According to Steve Wertz I shouldn't even be cooking for myself since she's in the hospital. I suppose I should order a flail and start whipping myself. Not like I haven't totally given up my life to take care of her. I've arranged for hospice care to come in and help once she gets back home. I'm arranging for all the medical equipment and so on. Jill |

White Castle burgers are no worse than other mystery meat fast food burgers. I've eaten them on occasion, and because there was a store located around the corner from where I worked in New Hyde Park, LI we'd sometime send out for some for lunch... but this was back in the early '70s and I haven't indulged since, I assume they are still the same, a tiny square burger on a very soggy bun. Their claim to fame is that they were the very first fast food enterprise and that their burgers have holes like a saltine cracker to facilitate cooking, they are cooked with steam and are not flipped. I've no idea about the frozen ones, never indulged, but I'd not be surprised if they're lousy, how good can any frozen fast food burger be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Castle_(restaurant) |

(Not a brand I've seen here). Once upon a time, maybe 60 or 65 years ago, White Castle made the best burgers in town. (Kansas City, MO) The stores were little castle shaped buildings, painted white, with no interior seating. The burgers were 5 cents each or 6 for a quarter. Dads used to drive us kids over to the one near The Plaza in KC and buy six burgers in a bag, come back out to the car and we'd eat in the car. Best burgers I've ever had. About 20 years ago on a trip back home (we live in California now) we stopped by a White Castle hamburger joint which looked like any other fast food place. The burgers were small, square and would take about six of them to make one meal. Not very good. They have an odd taste that isn't bad, but not as good as almost any fast food hamburger you care to name. Ron |

It's pretty much region specific, unless > you live in an area where there are enough homesick white castle > lovers to make a profit by selling them frozen. Vernor's ginger ale > can be found, however (don't even ask - it's another regional thing). According to White Castle’s website, their frozen products are available at the following stores in the San Francisco area: Albertson's Bell Air Food Maxx Food Source Nob Hill Raley's Ralphs/Cala/Bell/Food Co. Markets Safeway Save Mart Scolari's Walgreens * Their frozen products are also widely avaialble in the Phoenix area. Their restaurants are in 11 midwestern/eastern states. There were many in Ohio when I lived there. Vernor’s was sold in practically every store in the Cleveland area. -- Wayne Boatwright (correct the spelling of "geemail" to reply) ******************************************* Date: Tuesday, 11(XI)/04(IV)/08(MMVIII) ******************************************* Today is: U.S. Election Day Countdown till Veteran's Day 6dys 3hrs 19mins ******************************************* A morning without coffee is like |

The stores that are here, and *I've* shopped at - don't carry White Castle burgers. I can safely say no Safeway I've shopped in sells White Castle. I'd remember that! Sara Lee, Stouffers... Everything except Bell, Albertson's (isn't it back to being called Lucky's now?) and Safeway are known. If there's even *one* of the others here, it's not on my shopping path and I haven't seen White Castle in any of the of them. -- I never worry about diets. That's why McCain lost, he didn't have a kitty... in the US more people have pet cats than dogs, in fact more people have cats for pets than all those who voted. Had I run for President my Jilly would have won every state. All kittys are cute but my Jilly is the winner, she's the cutest... she's also the smartest: http://i33.tinypic.com/m9m4xl.jpg |
