Actually, you did not "fix" the URL. Yours takes us to an entirely
different site. As one who wants to learn more about cooking with different
spices -- and yet I also want to know which are "hot" -- I was happy to see
*both* sites.

So, here are both of them (in case anyone else would like to view them
both):

The Katzer site is the most comprehensive anywhere, and is selling
nothing... the spicecentre is a weak redundancy, and is a commercial
site.

I am in agreement with both Steve and Sheldon... is that another r.f.c.
first? Just curious.

Thanks. The comment about selling is a good one (but I think "fixed" was
the wrong term -- I think of that as someone who corrects a URL that has an
incorrect letter in it or a missing letter). Nevertheless, I have
bookmarked both sites because I immediately found something (bay leaf) that
was listed in the "commercial" site but not in Katzer. If I found that so
quickly, I assume there may be others -- and undoubtedly others in reverse
(that is, in Katzer only).

You're obviously not an experienced foodie.

Look in the Ls, it's the first listing; "Laurel".

You're also not an experienced netizen or you'd know to look for a
search engine at most any reference site... had you used Katzer's
search engine for Bay you'd have found Laurel. So in all respects you
are indeed a Newbie.

Actually, it made sense either way, considering the context of a "food"
newsgroup. My objection was to saying that you "fixed" the URL and then
also eliminating the original. Unless someone were reading the two messages
simultaneously, it would be easy to conclude that you had simply added or
removed some letters to "correct" the URL. As I said earlier, I'm actually
glad to have both. I'm not much of a cook, so I'm using this NG primarily
as a learning tool rather than as a place where I can be a contributor.

There are three different kinds of Bay Leaves on the Katzer site.

The Katzer site is *the* spice reference. No other site comes even
close.

It's a figure of speech when someone tries to point you people to an
inferior site. That same phrase has been used hundreds of times on
Usenet to do exactly what I did - redirect readers to a better site.
Call it poetic license.

In my not too humble opinion, still the best place for authoritative
information on spices is Gernot Katzer's web page:

No negative comment about the site he redirected people to. I meant

The question is why is Squidgy here seeing as all he likes doing is
starting fights, and then accusing others of doing that. But this is an
unmoderated newsgroup and bottom-feeders have as much right to post here as
the rest of us.

I just tried three subjects randomly: cicely, orange and sizchuan
pepper, all worked. Which three failed for you?

Yeah, you are, and Steve loves every word of it. When my oldest son was
younger, I saw a lot of myself in him. Argue, argue, argue. My mother
especially would complain about me arguing with my brother. At our
ages, we're pretty much over it. My oldest son will be 30 in a few
weeks, and he is finally growing up.

Except that if Steve is xxx, well, then the other three of us are also.
We *all* like to argue.

Seems to be a browser problem. If you have a different browser, give it
a try. There's a note on the page that Gernot is out of the country, so
it may not get fixed very quickly.
