Although you said it took a long time over rough roads to get him to the hospital and that you had to hire someone to sail your boat to the city his hospital was in, it didn't sound as bad as what you just told us. Glad to hear all is well! Just wondering, do you stay connected with the internet while at sea? ![]() -- I never worry about diets. It used to be difficult to stay connected, but now they use ham radio and get better connection than I have with dialup. |

You know, I am just now settling down. Each day I realize how traumatized I was. I did what needed doing and crying or falling apart was not an option. > Glad to hear all is well! Thank you. Really, I feel like I’ve just come out of a nightmare. I appreciate your good wishes and this group. Even though I haven’t posted much, I do read when I can and enjoy the banter. > Just wondering, do you stay connected with the internet while at sea? No. Up until now we have only had SSB (single side band) radio to contact other yachts and get weather info while out at sea. We are supposed to be able to send and receive email with it but it doesn’t work. (sigh) Now, being in port, we have a usb dongle to connect with the internet. Kind of like a cell phone connection. I doubt it will work out on the ocean though. > ![]() Back at ya babe! ;-) Barb s/y Arabella www.sailinglinks.com |

I doubt your friends can surf the internet with their ham radio, but certainly they can communicate with friends and loved ones through email. It makes all the difference in the world to be able to let the ones you love know all is well. I sure wish ours was working. Humph! When we first started out, five years ago, the only way we could send emails back home was though internet café’s. I love that we can now sit on the boat in port and skype, surf the internet and send emails easily. How quickly things can change! Barb s/y Arabella www.sailinglinks.com |

It's the only way I would be able to get a dast connection, but I'm unwilling to pay the price. YOu must already have lots of the antennae it takes. |

Back in Mexico we were in a marina with quite a few mega yachts. All of them had lots of antennas but none would share their wifi with us. ƒ¼ Plus, four of them had helicopters on their aft deck. The noise of them coming and going, just to view the coastline, was horrifying! OK, I¡¦ll admit it, I was a bit jealous. We actually considered buying a remote control helicopter to launch off our aft deck. Just to show them that we were cool too. It would have been fun gliding that baby around but alas, we couldn¡¦t afford it. Whaaaa! Would have been fun though. Barb s/y Arabella www.sailinglinks.com |

I'm a big wus at sailing because I get motion sickness at the drop of a hat... that's why big ships with stabilizers are my kind of sailing (as long as they resemble a ship - and not a multi-storied shopping mall from the outside). LOL! I have standards, ya know. ![]() -- I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in a diamond. Mae West |
