Default Holiday baking

I got started on my holiday baking today. The first batch of
fruitcake is in the oven. Thankfully my grocery store decided to
cooperate. Butter is $2.50 per pound, sugar $1.58 for a 4 pound bag,
King Arthur AP flour is $1.98 instead of $2.98.

Another batch of fruitcake tomorrow. All of the fruit is cut and
ready.

Do you macerate the fruit in spirits?

Good idea. I should get my (light) fruitcake started. It is one of the
best things about Christmas. Once I get that out of the way I can start
thinking about other Christmas baking.

And it's beginning to look like Christmas here. We have had about 2
inches of snow in the last your. It has been a cool and wet spring,
summer and fall here. If the precipitation keeps up we will have a very
snowy winter.

No. I do dust the fruit with flour so it does not all settle to the
bottom of the pan. I spritz the cakes several times with brandy
before sending them out. I tried my Grandmother's recipe for a white
fruit cake where there a soaked in white wine overnight. The
recipients voted for the dark cake. It is my MIL's recipe, with
candied fruit.

I have my dead sister's fruitcake recipes. When I want fruitcake, I
contact the Collin Street Bakery in Tejas. Yum!
