Generally, Czech cuisine, unfortunately, is NOT the best, from most
accounts - aside from the beer, of course. However, my father lived there for a few years and speaks fondly of the cookies, even though he doesn't eat sweet things any more, mainly for health reasons. Does anyone know of a good recipe collection, online or off, for the cookies? Thank you. Lenona. |

Thank you. Are you looking for a particular type of Czech Christmas cookies (vánocní cukroví)? There is more than one type and they all can be called "Christmas cookies". There are linecké cukroví, which are of Austrian origin, from the town of Linz. There are "vosí hnízda", "wasp nests", cookies made with nuts and rum. There are vanilkové rolickí, cookies covered in vanilla sugar. These are just some examples. I do not know an English-language Web site that covers this matter. However, there is a Czech one, at <http://www.vanocnicukrovi.com>, with what appears to be a nice collection of such recipes. There are more to be found if you explore the "Kategorie" link on the site. Perhaps your father can translate the recipes for you. Victor |

In the meantime, does anyone know of any cookbooks for these? Lenona. |
