Default Chocolate wafer recipe?

Does anyone have a tested recipe for chocolate cookies similar to Oreos
(without the creme filling)? They don't have to be black; I don't want
to mess with squid ink or paste food coloring. I assume it'll made with
dutch cocoa to get an honest very dark color (or maybe just *lots* of
regular cocoa), and shortening to make them crisp. Thanks.

Actually, there is a black cocoa. Someone on one of my lists used
to purvey it.

Oh, I tried something like that years ago. I rather liked the
filling, but the cookie part was a no-go.

Been trying for ages to replicate those wafers, without any success
whatsoever. Many of the recipes on the Net start with cake mix, which
won't result in that sufficient crispness.

May need to break down and buy a '100 calorie' pack, which seem to be
the wafers without the filling (which is revolting LOL). Having a list
of the 'real' ingredients might help with the research

I have had that thought--buy the wafers and make my own filling.
Hmmm. I wonder how similar the chocolate wafer cookies are?

Definitely a time to be empirical. Will report back after this week's
shopping trip
