It was not directed at you. It was directed at people who like to brag
about who they are filtering.

Greg always uses the same e-mail address, regardless of the name he chooses.
If I wanted to filter him -- which I don't -- I'd just delete anything with
"morrow" in the "From" line. The filtering mechanism in Outlook Express
applies the filter list to both the sender's name and his or her e-mail
address. I don't know if other newsreaders work like that.

Maybe "Top 10 dirty rotten name shifters" would be a better survey.

If you know! In Greg's case you do--at least usually. There are nym shifters

Make it a Top 10 and you get Morrow.

No, he sometimes changes *everything* possible in the "from" header.
His favorite trick is using domains from countries I've never heard of.

If you tried this technique, you would soon find that it doesn't always
work. What he *does* do is put his real name at the bottom of the post.
Since news clients only filter on headers, it is not possible to
killfile him regularly.

I don't know if all newsreaders do this, but I use this technique
frequently.

that's true most of the time, but many 'one-button' killfiles just pick up
the name in quotes. it took me a while to catch on and start using the
e-mail address.

but a survey would give the aggregate numbers, not telling who was doing
what to whom.

to piggyback on my own post (how gauche), here's a list of twenty. (before
anyone gets their knickers in a twist, i'm not saying these are people i
have kill-filed, or even that they deserve kill-filing, but that i remember
folks mentioning that *they* have k.f.-ed):

Gregory Morrow
Bob Terwilliger
Dave Smith
cybercat
Andy
Sheldon
"Pete C."
jmcquown
Paco
Goomba
"Paul M. Cook"
PeterL
sf
TFM®
Lou Decruss
ChattyCathy
Omelet
Sqwertz
blake murphy

i'm hoping you could vote for more than one.

Yep...and all these big brave men crybabying about the fact that I've
spoofed cybercat and blake (I won't "spoof" blake again, can't promise about
the cyberkittie, hehe...) a few times.

If you put "Gregory Morrow" into your filters you'll catch more than 99% of
my posts...I *do* constantly munge my address, but that aint' my
problem...even Outlook Express has the capability to killfile me by name,
e.g. "Gregory Morrow". If folx can't figger that out that's not my prob...

And whenever I've spoofed those two above I've posted via google, my address
clearly shows as "gregorymorrowatearthlink.net". Put that address intro
your twitfile and you'll not even see those few posts...

If you want a *real* name -changing pest try Peterbreath Lucas, he has a new
nym and address most every day...that's cos he's an unctuous and smarmy PUKE
who thinks he can weasel his way into the good graces of rfc, but I can
guarantee that AIN'T gonna happen...

Sqwertz has a lotta sockpuppets and such, but I don't mind, he's part of the
rfc "gang"...anyways I always relish Steve and Sheldon going at it, which
they've done at least once already today. It's cheap
entertainment...Sheldon's critiques of Steve's food pix and then Steve's
rebuttals, lol.

ALL those countries are REAL, Dan...

Quick, tell me what country 'ch' in my header signifies...first prize is a
Harry Partch record...!!!

Sure it is, others do it ALL the time, Dan...maybe you need to read what I
wrote in response to Bob T. above...or consider getting a better newsreader.

In OE you can choose to filter solely by name...I do this all the time.

Peeps diss OE all the time, but filtering solely by name is a valuable
utility, I can't believe the "fancier" newsreader programs y'all use out
there won't permit this...

He listed regular rfc posters that have been publicly plonked.

<cough>

At least the people on the list have something to say, so that party
would be lively - to say the very least. LOLOL!

Obviously, you've been out of my KF for quite a while... but I want to
KF you when you spoof. Soooooo, how would I do that? Inquiring minds
want to know (I'm sure I'm not the only one).

Seriously, I think we'd all get along...however I'd hope that Peterbreath
Lucas' plane gets "lost" along the way to the party...

Speaking of "lost planes", before the jet era and modern radar tracking c.
1960 airliners on long - distance flights would often simply "disappear", up
until then planes were pretty much only in radio contact, there was little
radar tracking. Planes would crash even over land and the only way the FAA
would know would be by peeps and local authorities calling in that there had
been a crash. It would take hours or sometimes even days to locate the
crash sites...there were no "black boxes" with radio beacons as is routine
now.

Trans - oceanic flights would take off and then they'd reach something
called "the point of no return", beyond which the primitive radar tracking
of the time would be of no use...the planes would only have radio
communications with their home bases and local ATC, every long - distance
plane had a radio operater, plus a navigator plus the pilot and co - pilot.
Planes disappeared all the time, there were many famous incidents especially
in the Pacific, c. 1958 a Pan Am piston Stratocruiser on the Hawaii - SFO
run simply disappeared, later some wreckage was found. One famous crash
happened c. 1957 over the Grand Canyon, a TWA Constellation and a United
DC - 7 fatally collided, it took quite some time to find it. Another famous
mid - air crash - witnessed by many, natch - was over Brooklyn in IIRC
1960, a United DC-8 jet and a TWA Constellation crashed on approach to
Idlewild (JFK), much loss of life, some on the ground. Something like that
is unimaginable now...

Even when transatlantic jets were introduced in late 1958, ATC on that route
was still dodgy...by then some of the brighter minds figgered out that the
US - Canadian - NATO DEW line radars could be used to not only track
incoming Russkie missiles and bombers, but also civilian airliners...

Now we have GPS and sat nav and all that stuff, every moment of every
airliner movement is tracked, you can see this on any home PC. The
introduction of jets was also a revolution in safety, those old propeller
piston airliners had mucho numerous parts that if any one was even a tidge
off could be fatal...watch _The High And The Mighty_, that stewardess was
not kidding that they were in trouble when she sensed a tiny vibration in
the cabin floor...

Anyways, that's the civil aviation history lesson for today, kidz...
